I have Just made some crude edits to this threads OP in anticipation of a fuller edit in the near future. The most obvious changes are the fact that we have brought the event forward one year, that we will attempt it in 30 days instead of 60 and that there are now 77 Provinces in Thailand. Dr.Winston O'Boogie. September 5th 2013.

 

We will cover 77 provinces

 

in maximum 30 + days

 

On 1st of July 2014, we will set off at 8 a.m from Pattaya  to drive to every province in Thailand

 

There will be no drinking involved and we will rent several cars

 

We will drive from one province to the other in preplanned routes with other members and we will stop at a main city in each province.

 

We will stay in one place at the end of each night and each day we will drive to as many provinces til the next bed time.

 

The concept is to have a ride in each province in Thailand and visit every province at the same time. (with photos - maybe to  attraction in each province)

 

We will take clean photos and videos and update them to clean blogs per person. The riding in each province will be the main focus.

 

I will probably be in a lead car to trail blaze with a well known (fluent in Thai) forum English member.   No females invited.

 

This will be the mongering expedition of the year.

 

I will refine the route and we will make it as efficient as possible.

 

Estimated costs per person maximum. No one is profiting from this event. Just pay as you go.

 

maximum 15k each truck hire  (minimum 2 per car)  (30-70 days) probably 10-20 k per person

maximum 45k each for hotels   (30-70 days) could only cost 20k

maximum 100k to enjoy each province - could only be 76k

maximum 50k for drinks and food   (30-70 days)  could only be 20k

maximum 20,000 per person to give to HIV rayong Charity - fixed

 

Total maximum cost for 30-70 days  230,000 baht maximum

Total minimal cost for 30-70 days   146,000  baht mimimum

 

I will get a better route planned out and a more clear time scale and price estimation. The price will become more accurate as everything is planned better. These prices are the max and no money is to be earned off it. We will pay equally as we go.

 

The thread will be updated to be more accurate.

 

We have done a thread early to give guys chance to plan all this early, ideally 8 guys maximum but more are welcome, but it needs to be orgnanised 6 months before.

 

This event is entertaining and unique and we will be donating lots of money to charity after. (20k each)  Our personal conquest of riding each province is unique to our brotherhood. Who else has visited every province in Thailand and rode in each province....

 

we will try and do this in full in the month of July, its a tall effort. Most likely to continue for 7-10 days after. Its a lot of driving and ridin.

This is a very interesting project, and would be the trip of a lifetime. Planning a circular route to terminate in Pattaya seems impossible because of the location of the Southern Provinces.

 

I will follow future developments with interest.

 

Many years ago I travelled first class by rail from Singapore to Bangkok.

 

I suppose very few people have visited all 76 provinces. The only one I have heard of is Joe Cummings, formerly of Lonely Planet. Doctor W.O.B. has certainly visited many, and is fluent in Thai.

 

Including a scale with the map would be interesting. I have a dialled gadget for tracing routes.

Apparently the dialled gadget I mentioned is termed a 'map mileage meter'.

Yes, many of the towns and cities in provincial Thailand have entertainment available, the setup isn't always what you'd get in Pattaya but that's all part of the fun/challenge. I couldn't imagine a trip where we didn't sample the local nightlife.

Tomtom, the digital map gps system, would be useful in the lead car. I have the Western Europe edition. It is available for South East Asia.

The Doc would make a perfect leader, and as a London cabby has probably driven more accident-free miles than the rest of the safari members combined. I have never had the nerve to drive in Thailand myself.

I have the Tomtom app for S.E. Asia and it is great. I use the Europe version all the time combined with the HD traffic service. Sygic is another good navigation app that covers Thailand, superior graphics to Tomtom but cannot speak for the routing as I have never had the chance to compare it back to back.

Would flooding be a problem in the month of July? Are the roads mostly tarmac in some remote provinces?

Insurgency in Southern Thailand is in a constant state of flux. The latest position is that the Thai authorities are “considering handing over limited powers to its Muslim-majority south in an effort to persuade rebels to lay down their arms”.

I had no idea that there had been 5,500 deaths since 2004.

Parking-up and using the train might be  considered for travel in the three most dangerous provinces, Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, but even trains have been targeted.

July 2015 is of course a long way into the future, and I am sure that Laa Mok will take these things into consideration at the then time.

Owing to the unheralded recent departure of Doctor Winston O' Boogie from the Management Team and also his lack of any voluminous presence on the forum, I presume he will not be our leader on this suggested overland safari in July 2015.

 

I would hate for this exciting idea of Laa Mok's not to be proceeded with. I love to travel, and spent over a year going around the world after my long since gone retirement. Luckily I have many relatives situated in the USA, Canada and also friends in OZ, so costs of hotels, meals and tours, whilst so occupied, were no problem. A bit like 'balloon chasing' I freely admit, although they have all done the same, by staying with me, when they have visited the UK. Luckily I make my own wine so that helped out a lot with reducing the cost of some of their gross and bawdy habits. Some are medics too, but with scant regards for their own livers.

 

Some brave soul who is suitable as a leader will come forward before 2015 no doubt. It could even be Vessey ably assisted by 999Baht, the Batman and Robin of the forum. The Aussie element of the partnership is, as we all know, widely known as Cock Robin, because of his incurable addiction to BJ's, the details are which are too numerous and racy to mention.

 

I myself do not drive in the LOS, by the way, due to a complete lack of the required nerve, and also my failing elderly reflexes. I also tend to fall asleep frequently these days, but I got used to afternoon siestas, when we had a place in Spain. The kids were young then and it was cheaper than staying in decent hotels. Property prices on the Iberian peninsula were a gift at that time.

He is very much still part of Pattaya Addicts and I'm sure will not disappear completely on here. 

I am not in the management team...I'm just a guy that is on here all the time because I have an unhealthy obsession with everything Pattaya.

 

But I am very very keep to go on this adventure. 

I humbly suggest 999Baht ( a.k.a. Cock Robin), be considered to be in line as the next Pope, and also a prospective candidate for election to the Management Team, the present membership of which, stands at 14, (an even number), odd numbers always being preferable in any democratic body. It's to do with votes, folks. Or should that be folks votes?? The Chairman of the board normally has a casting vote, but most, so empowered, do not often like to use that power.

Depending on the state of the insurgency in the Southern States, in July/August/September 2015, perhaps armed government escorts at the front and rear of the convoy, for the danger spots might be arranged, with special guest, Boris Johnson, hogging the limelight as usual, Laa Mok, in his famous white suit giving a thank you speech on the tele, charity whip-rounds , brass bands etc. The mind boggles. Amusing masks for BM's of a shy nature, who are anxious to hide their mongering and bawdy habits Sponsorships for free beer and fuel, Chang Brewery springs to mind as a likely sponsor, as they usually like to stick their oar in for their own good reasons.

 

Just for fun suggestions, but maybe with a little serious intent. I spent my National Service in Malaya, as it was then, in the fifties, during the emergency there. My job, was mostly concerned with Air Despatch units dropping supplies to the troops of many Commonwealth countries, Gurkha, Dyak trackers, (head-hunters- small but nasty when drunk!), and many Malay policemen. The saga has become known as one of Britain's many small forgotten wars, but the casualties , over 15 year of struggle, totalled many thousands Lots of travelling was necessary, with armed escorts heading our convoy/s. Some happy days, some sad. A golfing pal of mine who served in the 1^st Battalion Manchester's, lost some young comrades. Many rubber plantation managers and their families were slaughtered by the communist insurgents. Worth a good 'google', if you are so inclined. I spent lots of time at the Thai/Malay border.

Provisioning the men doing the actual fighting, in the dense jungle, which covered four fifths of Malaya at that time, was difficult, due to the many races involved. If I remember rightly the Gurkha lads, wonderful soldiers, ate lots of goat-meat. The goats had to be ritualistically slaughtered. After lots of negotiation with a packaging company, our office managed to devise canned meals for all denominations. Buying veggies which had not been fertilised with human 'you know what' was a big problem.

 

As a devout and lifelong coward, I'm happy to mention that I was mostly in an office at Malay Dist. HQ. Just a newly qualified accountant and a lousy soldier. I had managed to defer my call-up in order to finish university and other exams. The normal call-up age was 18 years in those days by the way. I was an old man of 23yo, but ended up a captain. I met William Roach (Ken Barlow, of Coronation Street fame), during training at Aldershot. He's in deep sh*t now, as you will know, as a participating member of the Jimmy Savile brigade.
