A friend of mine returned from Thailand in April and over the past few weeks has began to show the classic symptoms of Malaria. He has had tests and the results are due back shortly but even if they are negative it certainly highlights the issue. He visited Bangkok and Pattaya where i am sure there are no problems,Si Saket where i am not aware of any issues and Ko Chang which i think is Malarial.Being a keen traveler all over LOS myself i have never considered this to be a threat before but i was wondering if any other BMs had contracted this terrible disease or take regular precautions against it.

Malaria only in the very remote places close to the border , not in Koh Chang .

According to the health station where i get my jabs Ko Chang is highlighted as being Malarial and it is near to the border.

Of course your doc like to sell some jabs but there's no malaria on Koh Chang . Maybe there was 20 years ago but not anymore .

Malaria jabs/pills are not very healthy and not very effective anyway .

Using a good reppellant with deed is more effective if you don't want to get bitten .

Before you go in the trip you should to your local gp for advice on diseases, just in case get malaria & hepatitis injections.

P.s Avoid areas that where there are lots of mosquitoes, insect repellant is also useful

I have travelled a lot round the north and borders of Laos and always have been advised by the health clinic to take the tablets, why take the risk.
