Nepalese Man Arrested After Swindling Money

BANGKOK – June 23, 2013 [PDN]; At the HQ of the Thai tourist police, various police generals and colonels held a press conference regarding the arrest of Mr. Bibek Bentawa, a 35 year-old Nepalese national. He was wanted after he had swindled money off a fellow-countryman of his, when police arrested him, various possessions of Mr. Bibek were seized as well, including bank books, mobile phones and fake passports. He was arrested at a condominium in Yan Nawa district in Bangkok.

Police Major General Roi Aingpairot, one of the main speakers at the press conference said that Mr. Bibek had swindled money worth over 1 Million THB off Mr. Pawan Putong, a former police man in Kathmandu, Nepal. He tricked him by asking him to invest in a restaurant in the USA, Canada, Norway, Macau and Thailand, Mr. Bibek claimed that they would make enormous sums of income. Little did Mr. Pawan know that he was being tricked by Mr. Bibek, it was reported that he transferred money of over 1 Million THB to Mr. Bibek to invest but he later realized that he was tricked. After the money was transferred, Mr. Pawan booked a flight to Bangkok, but when arrived at the airport, he found that his visa and passport that was provided by Mr. Bibek was fake, which made him ask the Royal Thai Police and Tourist police for help, which eventually led to the reported incident.

Journalists reported that as the press conference took place, Mr. Bibek threatened Mr. Pawan to withdraw the case, but Mr. Pawan did not listen to Mr. Bibek and insisted to take legal action at Mr. Bibek.
