Diana Inn, is it really that bad?

I really like the location and the pictures of the swimming pool, but when I look at the reviews on line it doesn't get good marks. Are these people just expecting too much? Also the Diana Inn web page says standard room1100 TBH. In your opinion is that a good low season price?

Diana Inn isn't really that bad, it's just that there are better deals to be had else where in Pattaya. Yes the pool is probably the best feature here and no the B1100 rate doesn't represent good value for this accommodation in Pattaya during low season.

I have stayed at diana inn a few times over the years

The last time Xmas 2012 for a few nights

The delux rooms over looking the swimming pool are ok but quite expensive

But the location is unbeatable

stayed here in 2012, never again.

i now call this hotel cockroach capital

Thanks to you all for your response. I really appreciate it. Yeah I thought 1100 was a bit much. I think I might take a look at Bay Breese on Soi Honey. Arcadia Manson looks okay as well, but no pool... I will have to keep researching...

I first started staying at the Diana in 1994.  It was cheap because it was "far" away from the main nightlife areas.  It was only about 500 baht a night and you could roll up on a late Friday afternoon after getting off work in Bangkok and get a room.   That rate also included the breakfast in the morning as well.  After renovations and the new addition prices went up a bit and it was best to call and make a reservation (not internet yet!).  By 2000 it was getting more difficult to book a room on the weekends and the rates had crept up a bit.

I haven't stayed there in years now and generally go elsewhere where it is a bit more quiet but still has a pool.  Although it was a never a high class place, it was always clean and I never had any problems.

Thanks Speedybluebiker for the input. By the pics on line it does give the impression that it was a really nice place at one time. I have stayed at places like that in the past, mostly in PI, and been very happy. Of course the lower price does make you look past a lot of the imperfections. As others have said already the location is perfect. Before I pull the trigger on Bay Breese I will call again and see if I can get a lower price on a deluxe room at Diana Inn. The last time I called the manager was out of town and they told me to call back and talk to him about what the pricing would be.

I have stayed there in May. 1.100 baht in the old building. The pool is nice if you use it. The room itself sucked. It was big but all furniture was very old and the floor had big cracks. The bathroom had a  dirty tub. The airconditioner can be either on or off, so either you will be hot or freezing. Lots of unknown insects crawling around, even in the bed. No in room safe.

At 1150 Baht Bay Breeze, just 1 soi down offers a much 'cleaner experience' with a real nice breakfast buffet and in room safe.

Thanks Quickhook and Owching I appreciate the feed back. Maybe the old building is the one with the bug issues.... QH thanks for the link to your review. My traveling buddy is on a tighter budget than me so I have decided to go with my first thought and stay at a guest house. Almost every review I have read gives Dave and his Canteburry Tales a big thumbs up. We plan to go to jomtien beach a lot, and if we want to go to a pool we will just pay some hotel to use theirs.

I stayed at Diana Inn back in the 1990's when it was really one of the best budget hotel deals in Pattaya. For around 500/700 baht per night, it was a bargain, and the scene around the pool every day was worth experiencing. But the place has seen better days. Room prices have gone up without any great improvements to the facilities. However the breakfast was always good, and I see that they also do a buffet dinner as well which seems to be popular. My experience of buffets is that you need to get there early before the food goes off from being constantly heated.

But for the price they are charging for a standard room now, there are better deals to be had in the area.

Yea I might go by and look around when I am there for next time, might even see if I can go to the pool.

Thanks for the feed back Hedgecock! good job on the 50 posts too!

Once again thanks for the feed back guys. I still pan to go take a look at the place. I hear that the green bottle bar attached to the hotel is alright. I like to drink at the beer bars right across from mikes shopping mall on second road. So I will make a point to stop in.

I always liked the Opey De Placein soi Lengkee, it's getting a little tired now but the pool is great and the location is excellent, and it's about 850 - 900 Bt. and beside it is the Sutus court, again 800 - 900Bt and it's new. I was never one for guest houses, and I must have a pool, but cheap and cheerful does it for me

Opey De Placein soi Lengkee does look like a nice place. Right down Soi Diana.... Prices looks good to.

I will certainly put it on the back up list. Looks like they only allow 2 persons per room though.... I never like leaving that option closed. Just in case i do happen to run into a pair....

Other than that it looks like a really nice place. Thanks Barman!

I've stayed here twice and liked it best the first time when I was on the ground floor. I can't remember if the room had a TV(and who cares, anyway?) but there were cook facilities which impressed the girl I brought back a couple of times.

Second time I was upstairs and there was a TV but other places I've stayed and paid the same price have been nicer.  Back then the stairs could have definitely done with a makeover.

In February I tried booking online and was told by email after a couple of days that there were no rooms.  When I walked in and had a look there were definitely rooms.

That's pretty much my same requirements too.  I do like having an in-room safe........not that it will ensure safety of valuables but at least make it a little bit harder for the thieves!

Try "Dancewatchers" website. They have Studio Condo's at View Talay 6 available and IMO a Condo is 10 times better than a Hotel - and cheaper as well.

I myself always rent a Condo in Jomtien - much quieter - and still very easy to acces  Walking Street...
