First four months see 19% more foreign tourists

Thailand attracted more than 8.8 million foreign visitors between January and April, led by tourists from China, similarly to last year, said Kasikorn Research Centre, which expects the number of foreign visitors for the entire year to reach 25.4 million.

19% more foreign tourists? Well, I don't think they went to Pattaya. I have just returned from a two week trip to Pattaya and I have never seen the city so quiet before. The beaches were empty and the bars were empty. I wonder where all these people go?

This maybe the case but I'd be much more interested in a split between tourists and us mongers (especially in Patts).  Impossible, I know, but this would show our segment compared to others.  Patts is busy, but with tourists!!

 

I think this is why many long time mongers are commenting on the changing face of Pattaya.

Yes, we're commenting but many guys don't want to hear it... speak out about the "changing face of Pattaya" and guys will say you're preaching Doom and Gloom.

 

The facts are that there are more tourists in Pattaya today then there has ever been in the past. And there are still a good number of "new monger tourists" who are willing to pay top dollar for titillation. But the old school "blue-collar" mongers, the guys who helped the bars survive the low season for the most part have moved on... Those guys aren't willing to fly around the world to pay 1500 barfines with a 50/50 chance of pulling a girl from Walking St. for under 3000. 

 

It's only June guys... we've got another 3-4 months of Low Season ahead.

the new tourists are on group tours that keep them busy on a bus all day then go back to their "way out" hotels for the night. you rarely see them in pattaya proper. they dont frequent falang businesses like bars & restaurants.

the thai governement has called it a crisis of sorts since these "groupies" use a lot of tour resources but dont spend a lot of money......
