CHUMPORN – June 5, 2013 [PDN]; Journalists and reporters were informed by 37 year-old Surasak Manatirat that an elder man had to imprison his daughter for over 20 years, as his daughter was suffering from an mental illness. Reporters together with Police Lt. Colonel Greanggrai Phoprasit of Wisaineu police station along with several other people went to the reported house where the woman was detained at. Mr. Cheab Wattanajit, the 86 year-old father of Ms. Anong revealed that her daughter was born normal. She graduated from middle school when she was 17 and married her boyfriend, she then relocated to Songkla province. But after only 5 months of living in Songkla, she split up with her husband, which made her return to live with her father. Not long after she had split with her husband, she had developed a mental illness which made go mad on hot days. She would destroy things around her and other people’s houses. Mr. Cheab once tried to treat her at a local hospital, but the expenses were too high for him, making him unable to treat her daughter. He didn’t know what to do, he then came up with an idea to put her in an little islet where she wouldn’t do anything to anyone. He then built a brick wall around a little hut, where he then detained his daughter for over 20 years.

Mr. Jud Sujjarit, the head of the village where Mr. Cheab and his daughter lived at said that he didn’t know how to help Mr. Cheab. He reported that there was someone in his village needing help to the district office, but help was never sent it. Ms. Anong was living like an animal where she was only fed and occasionally showered, which made Mr. Jud pity her and ultimately inform the media and police.

Tragic in so may ways.

Whatever we might think about our Farangland homes, we should be grateful that under the same circumstances we would have had more choices than this man and his daughter felt they had.

What a sad story.

We really do worry about silly things that are meaningless here sometimes.People out there are living horrible lives compared to us.
