Need help buying gaming PC

Recommended Posts

Wiz

Hi Snake,

the first machine is ok. The second machine isnt too good. The third machine is just fine. Or alternatively if you have plenty of cash you could buy the ultimate gaming PC from Alienwear.

if your set on using craigslist, as opposed to ordering yourself one, id go with the first or third.

the first looks nice, more expensive, but the third one lists its specs better, cheaper.

really depends what your trying to do with it.

good luck!

Buy any of those and you're already losing the game .....

All the configs feature out of date hardware .... If you're really serious about gaming (and able to play the latest games like Crysis), look for at least:

1 - Duo 2 Core E6850

2 - 8800 GTS/GTX or the new 8800GT

A Duo2 Core 2.13 GhZ will make you cry for a faster one within seconds ...

If you just play games which don't require the power or you're satisfied at playing at the lowest resolutions, you're fine though with config 1 and 3.

Thanks for the info/help guys. I don't have much to spend so that's why I'm buying used. It's gonna be mainly for video games.

If the games are your first priority, not the PC, why not get an Xbox 360 or sonyy ps3? the graphics are probably better and the machine would be a hell of a lot cheaper ??

only problem i really have with that is the platform exclusive games that are only released for a specific system. i need the ps3 for some games, x box for others, and computer for some. alot of good games are coming out for all 3, it really depends on what you want to play. your right though, in the computer will have more problems, take more of you time in upgrading and keeping up with.

if its a real gaming pc your interested in, like drlove said, start with a direct x 10 video card, a good duo core processor , 1-2 megs of RAM, and go from there.

good luck :Dance1:

you will struggle to beat a top end AlienWare PC.

not much of a struggle. :Dance1:

but true, even being bought out, i have always read and heard they consistently make good, solid pc's.

don't know if this is too late but whatever you do make sure the pc you choose has at least 2k RAM and 256k of dedicated video textured memory.

dual PCI-E SLI enabled

and make sure you get a 500 watt plus power supply, nothing worse than choking your machine due to insufficient wattage, you get all kinds of weird errors that don't make you immediately realize that it might be your power supply to blame

Only this link opened and I think the machine is "ok" to run some games in medium resolution. If you want to play Crysis in a higher res than your going to need a lot more power. :P
