Tony's gym dual pricing shame

Featured Replies

Nobody shocked with dual pricing use by tony's gym ?

I recently go to the new one on Siam country club

69thb for farang and 49thb for thai

So i try to speak with the cashier in order to get 49thb price

i show him my thai driving license (this work everywhere usually)

i tell him that i live there since many years, have house, children there, car, company, employee

But anyway !

Finally he ask me to write my name in Thai. Hey! i can speak thai but not write thai.

And shit maybe is father cannot write thai too !

I don't care about 20thb difference, i care about "Difference", is Thai sweat less expensive :)

All I know is, getting a thai girl to sweat costs less than getting a farang girl to sweat, and the Thai girl will even make the bed afterwards. :)

Lol

dry your eyes fella and man up...!

i dont see it as them charging more for farangs.... more like giving a discount to real thais... since gyms are not really that popular with thais (at least in pattaya anyway) they give them a little discount to try and bring them in... not to mention the average thai has a significantly lower salary and money to spend on things like a gym membership.

I never go anywhere that has the dual pricing on principle. It's discrimination, nothing more, nothing less. Imagine if you tried to get away with that in a developed country.

So you won't go to Thailand at all since dual pricing is everywhere? Just asking.

I would consider he was saying to you.... if  you are that integrated into Thai society, that you want a Thai discount, then show me, not just talk to me.

A Thai driving license normally does the trick, but if you have a company, employ Thai people, it would not hurt to read and write Thai.

Not saying right or wrong, but it is more a discount to people who are Thai.

There is dual pricing in many countries.

I definetly not see this like a discount to thai people but like rungnapa & pakwan :  a discrimination.

For people not shocked, you will then not be schocked to pay more for your food in restaurant, your gas in gas station ?

Have some laundry do this too in Pattaya : i avoid them!

For speak thai i do my best, but for reading sorry it's quite difficult and this not mean you are integrated, since have many thai people that did not read ;)

Indeed there are Thai people who cannot read and write. There are people on this board who write a form of English but do not understand grammar.

There are other gyms you can go to.

The other option being, if you like the gym, suck it up and go to it.

Discrimination happens, in many places.

There are people that did not learn english as first language too... did you speak french or other language like i speak english ?

Because most of native english speaker did not try to learn other language ehehe

Be sure i will go to other club! my club just close for 15 days, so i try this one but will forget quickly ;)

Good one!

I use the gym over by the temple off of nernpubwan how ever you spell that before the seven eleven. dual pricing im just use to it gave up on trying to explain myself years ago lol

i dont see it as discrimination.... it would be discrimination if they were targeting a specific group like "black men pay more" or something like that....but in this case, it is an equal treatment for ALL visitors from ANY country.... the japanese, american, uk, arab, etc guys all pay the same price when they come in.

they are simply offering a discount for natural thai citizens... nothing wrong with that at all.

in america, many businesses offer a discount for military personnel.... do you think it is discrimination against everyone else that is non-military?

no... it is just a discount for one specific category of customer... same as what tonys gym is doing.

I think this discrimination is at many other places. prices for thais are different.

60 cents! It's an outrage! Worse than Hitler!

Does it ever occur to you that some people have real problems?

You won't like my home state. It cost more at a state park if you are from out of state, tuition in schools is more if you are from out of state, if you are young you pay more than seniors at many places, if you are a student you pay less at many places, the list goes on and on and last I heard my home state is in a developed country.

You can't always get what you want but if you try, sometimes you might find that you get what you need.

Pathetic.

.

Well just been to the cinema in town, dual pricing again, my Thai partner paid 140 baht I had to pay 80 baht for being a senior citizen or elders as the Thais call them blatant discrimination!

There goes that trip to Europe. How many attractions (galleries, museums, castles, cathedrals, etc) there have a discount/free entry for locals and EU? Many. Most, maybe. Forget about the Taj Mahal while you're at it.

So, if you don't like it why go there?

Cheaper perhaps?
