The late arrival of the imac on the market before Christmas, due to problems with the welding of their new slimmer LG made screens caused major problems in supply especially the 27 inch model. This cut a massive hole in their first 2013 quarterly profits. The new ipad 5, a newer ipad mini, plus a new retina display to their mac books across the range, should see a heathy return in the third and fourth quarters. I wouldn't break a sweat just yet.

Even fanboys are starting to wake up and realize how overpriced and overhyped their products are. 

I got a Virgin Mobile, 5 years old, earpiece don't work, need speaker to hear, cost me $20 every 3 months, use hard line in office for free. Sign a contract, my ass.

Stock has made a nice run since this was posted.  Keep in mind, they have something like $1450 billion -- with a "b" -- in cash!  I read that it works out to well over $100 per share.  They just raised their dividend to the largest payout of any U.S. company (dollarwise, not %), and they're spending $60 billion this year to buy back shares, which should drive the price up, as well.  Article in this week's Barron's highlighted (again) why the stock should start moving back up.

 

I'm not a Mac guy, I have little interest in an iPad (just seems like a toy to me) and my iPod is now pretty useless, since my phone has all of my music on it, but short this stock at your peril.  Short term it may go up and down, but long term, they ain't going anywhere.
