POWs Left Behind in Laos and Vietnam – What happened to these People?

I thought about this exchange in BACK yesterday when I read a link on the UK Telegraph Online website announcing (I presume in jest) that proof had been found that Bigfoot does indeed exist, plus a link to a site where I was relieved to see that it was only yet more claims, rather than a captured beast being paraded before an astounded world.

But it did get me thinking again about the probable fate of the POWs who were left behind in Laos and North Vietnam after the Vietnam war had ended for the US, which is one of the themes of my novel.

The above surveillance photograph was taken by a US aircraft in 1969 over Ban Nakey Tua, a tiny hamlet in remote northern Laos, very close to where I visited last year, a town called Sam Neua, in Houaphan Province.
