A 23-year-old prisoner escaped while being taken to Pattaya provincial court for sentencing on a drug conviction. He was caught by police after he got on a motorbike taxi to escape. The suspect said he missed his son, who lived with his aunt on soi Buakhao.

PATTAYA – April 15, 2013 [PDN]; at 11:30 a.m., a report of a drug suspect escaping from a police transport vehicle outside the Pattaya courthouse was received by Pol. Maj. Col. Seksan Ruewait, suppression inspector, and Pol. Capt. Somchai Chaikananukul, vice suppression inspector of Muang Pattaya police station, Banglamung, Chonburi.

The escapee had been riding with 8-9 suspects being taken to the Pattaya provincial court to listen to their sentences. They were being driven by Pol. Maj. Capt. Chaibodin Dandratoke.

After the prisoner escaped, the police brought the remaining prisoners into the courthouse detention area. Meanwhile the police patrol officers and police volunteers patrolled to find the runaway suspect.

They discovered that he ran from the courthouse and then asked a taxi motorcycle driver to pick him at the top of soi Khaotappaya 15, moo 12, Nongprue, Banglamoong, Chonburi, which was 300 meters from the court.

The police officers and volunteers followed up and found the suspect at the middle of soi Bonkai 2, south Pattaya, moo 10, Nongprue, about 1 km from soi Tappaya 15.

The police arrested the suspect, identified as Mr. Assawin Duansuwarn, 23 years old, with a home address on moo 6, Huamaung, Long, Prea. He had been arrested for drug possession on April 13.

The police took him to question at Muang Pattaya police station. During questioning, Mr. Assawin told police that while the driver was careless, he used that occasion to slip his hands out of his loose handcuffs, and ran from the police vehicle.

After he escaped, he took off his shirt so the police would not notice him. He said he escaped because he missed his 1-and-a-half-year-old son who lived with his aunt in soi Buakhao, Pattaya.

Before he got arrested, he had rented a room in soi Korpai, south Pattaya, but he got arrested there. The police took the suspect to Muang Pattaya police station, to send him to the detective officer to prosecute.
