A 65-year-old Swiss man with health problems drowned while swimming in bad weather at Wongamat beach. His body was found many hours later. His Thai wife had told him to wait for her while she changed into a swimsuit, but he went swimming alone.

PATTAYA – April 15, 2013 [PDN]; a report of a foreigner’s body being found floating in the ocean was received by Pol. Maj. Capt. Wattana Pradit , detective officer, Muang pattaya police station, Chonburi.

The incident occurred at Wongamat beach, moo 5, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. Arriving at the scene were police forces and rescuers from Sawangboriboon, Thammasathan, foundation Muang Pattaya.

The body of the victim had been brought to the beach. He was lying on his back, naked, and attached to his stomach was a rubber hose for patients. There were no cut or bruises on the body, which was stiffening. Officers estimated he had been dead for not over 10 hours.

The victim was identified as Mr. Hans Peter, Stamminaer, 65 years old, Swiss. His wife, who was hugging the body and crying, was identified as Mrs. Malida Phudejduang, 35 years old, from Sangkom, Udon Thani.

She told police that at 5 p.m. on April 14, Mr. Hans went out from the room of Sky Beach Hotel, soi Wongamat, to swim in the condominium pool. But she told him not to go before she bandaged him, because he has kidney disease, and then she would change and swim with him. He told her that he would wait a little while.

So she changed to a swimsuit. But when she came out, someone told her that her husband had already drowned in the sea. She rushed to tell the sea rescuers in the area to search for him, but they could not find him, until it was late at night.
Witnesses said that when the Swiss man was swimming, there was strong wind and it started to rain. But they did not know the real cause for his drowning.

The police took pictures and wrote in the police journal for evidence. They suspected that the cause of death was swimming while the waves and the wind were strong. However to find the real and clear cause of death, the police will send the body for an autopsy by forensic police at Royal Thai Police hospital.
