Beach Road People Start Songkran Splashing Early

Beach Road partiers already have started splashing water at others, a week ahead of the April 17-19 time period scheduled for “Wan Lai” water throwing. The Thai and foreign tourists brought water spraying guns, water tanks and rubber tubes to splash water joyfully.

PATTAYA – April 12, 2013 [PDN]; At 4 p.m., a reporter walking along Beach Road on Friday found people in bars merrily splashing water on each other and on random strangers. Although the original tradition of Pattaya’s water splashing is scheduled for April 17-19, called “Wan Lai,” many playful and drunk tourists were getting a week’s head start.

Most other places in Thailand usually have their “Wan Lai” days during April 13-15. But due to the hot weather yesterday, some foreign tourists started to splash water, especially in Sois 7 and 8. Besides the foreigners, many Thai tourists from places like Bangkok are visiting Pattaya to participate in Songkran week.

Along Pattaya Beach Road, both the foreign and Thai tourists had brought water spraying guns, water tanks and rubber tubes to splash water very joyfully. The splashing of water was limited to the groups of people clustered around the bar areas. Most of the Thai people still have to work as usual.

However, the splashing of water in advance by the groups of foreign tourists made for a joyful environment that enhances the tourism image of Pattaya.
