Pattaya police swept drug dealers and pickpockets from the streets in a preemptive strike against criminals, to help prevent crimes during the Sonkran festival. A total of 31 suspects were arrested. Police are detaining the drug-using suspects for further investigation.

PATTAYA – April 13, 2013 [PDN]; At 2 a.m., journalists reported that police had made a street sweep of criminals, to prevent them from committing crimes during the Songkran festival.
The police station commander had ordered Pol. Capt. Netithorn Rattanasuchanan, vice suppression inspector, to bring police forces to sweep junkies who might look for opportunities to pickpocket or steal tourists’ properties on Walking Street.

Officers arrested 31 suspects who were junkies and walking around. The police expected they might pickpocket tourists. The detained suspects included two male migrants from Laos, and two from Cambodia.

The police interrogated the suspects to expand the case and find their drug dealers. Police then arrested an ice dealer, identified as Ms. Nawarat Rodkert, 42 years old, living at a house on moo 4, Khaosamorkorn, Tawung, Lopburi.

Police seized the evidence of 1.35 grams of ice, in a rental house on soi 9 in south Pattaya. Ms. Nawarat claimed that she ran out of money to buy ice, so she resorted to drug dealing to make money to pay her rent.

But the police were not convinced by her statements. They brought all the suspects to question further, to expand the case and arrest more suspects.
