A warehouse in Pattaya containing elevator-installing equipment caught fire at night and burned for three hours, before the blaze was controlled by 10 fire trucks. Damages were estimated at more than 1 billion THB.

BANGLAMUNG – April 13, 2013 [PDN]; At 2 a.m., a report of a fire burning a warehouse was received by Pol. Col. Chatchapol Phattarasiriporn, head of the detective department, Banglamung,Chonburi. More than 10 fire trucks from Nongprue and Pattaya were dispatched to the scene.

The fire was burning in a warehouse located on route 36 Rd., Kratinglai-Rayong, soi Bankrag 3, moo 4, Nongplalai, Banglamung, Chonburi. The warehouse was an elevator installation company named AKE, Ake May net mount, located on 3 rais of property on route 36 Road.

The fire started from the inside of the warehouse, in the office at the ground floor, which was used to store paint, big motors, wires, and other elevator installing equipment.

At the time there was strong wind, which made the fire stronger. Firefighters had to spray water to protect the aluminum and iron steel structure, and to prevent the fire from spreading to houses nearby.

The firefighters cracked open the door and sprayed water to stop the fire in the warehouse, but the goods stored in there were all very flammable, so the fire keep flaring up many times before it was extinguished.

Officers questioned the warehouse manager, Mr. Phuwanet Yamkaew, 33 years old, from Paholyothin, Rahang, Muangtark, Tark.

He said that the factory was a company doing business as an elevator installer. It had been open for only 7 months, and often did business in Panasnikom, Pluakdang, and Rayong.

At the time the fire happened, Mr. Phuwanet was sleeping in his house, when he heard a sound like fire sparking many times in the warehouse. He came out to check, and saw the fire was spreading from the inside, so he called the police. But he could not contact the owner of the factory.

After checking thoroughly, the police wrote in the police journal to compile evidence. They still did not know the real cause of the fire. However, the police will wait for the fire department to inspect the scene again.
