Depressed Father Missing His Daughter Hangs Himself

A divorced 48-year-old Buriram man living alone got depressed after his daughter left to work in Bangkok, and rarely visited him. After learning his daughter was not coming home for Songkran, he hung himself from a tree. He had earlier told his elder sister many times he wanted to die, but she did not take it seriously.

BURIRAM – April 11, 2013 [PDN]; A report of a man hanging himself in Sametrart was received by the police of Muang Buriram police station. Rescuers were sent to the scene, along with police. The incident occurred in a field, where arriving officers discovered a crowd of curious people had gathered.

The victim was identified as Mr. Mangkorn (surname withheld), age 48. Mr. Mangkorn had hung himself with a loin cloth tied to a branch of a golden shower tree about 2.5 meters from the ground. The police brought him down to check the body.

Officers found evidence of the neck being strangled from the hanging. The victim also had some scratches on his arms, which police assumed were from climbing up the tree.

Police questioned the victim’s elder sister, who revealed that her brother had family problems, because he had divorced his first wife, as well as his next wives. His 20-year- old daughter had left home to work in Bangkok, so he lived alone.

Mr. Mangkorn’s sister added that her brother kept saying he wanted to die, many times. But she did not pay attention. Before he killed himself, she said her brother was preparing to go to work in Bangkok.

Mr. Mangkorn was sad that his daughter would not come to visit home for the Songkran festival, so he wanted to go to see his daughter. But in the morning, someone told her that her brother had already died.

The police assumed Mr. Mangkorn was depressed about his life and family, and he was sad that his daughter had gone to Bangkok, but did not come back home to see him much.

Unfair to put a burden on his daughter... she has to carry that guilt for the rest of her life even though we all know she is not at fault.  Also feel sorry for the man, only if he get counselling help which Thailand don't have....
