Pattaya dreams now quashed

Hi all,

 

Planned on visiting Pattaya for my first visit some time this year that was until last Wednesday when I was admitted to hospital with a mild heart attack,had 2 stents inserted into partly clogged artery discharged 2 days afterwards feeling ok checked on travel insurance because of this its so expensive also i feel very apprehensive now as im traveling alone.Very disappointed,has any other members had a similar situation?.BTW im 55.

Matey first and foremost, I am sorry this has happened to you, 55 is not Old, but Weekly I deal with people such as you, and indeed many are years younger.

 

This does I am sure not make you feel better, after all it is you who has had the MI, and it is you that now feels scared and worried.

 

You have been caught in time, had the correct treatment, and many such as you with a few life changes, go on to lead long and filling lives.

 

You need to recover a little now, but more importantly gain your confidence back.

 

It is a Bitch Travel Insurance, but I all say better safe than sorry and you will now as you are aware have to pay much more.

 

If it helps the Hospitals in Thailand for us are Fantastic, and any problems you have when in Thailand will be dealt with the same as the UK or better.

 

What I would do is maybe see if you can get a Copy of your ECG, and also find out which Artery's were Stented, then carry around when away, even in the UK. This information,It makes it so much easier if we can see this, trust me.

 

I guess you are maybe on Wafrin for a bit, and some New Meds so make sure you take them, and have enough with you when you go away.

 

No problems going away alone just put a shout out before you come and say you are a little nervous and want a Wingman to keep an eye on you and check in daily. Many I am certain would be happy to assist.

 

Just a warning if you take Vitamin K when away Now consult your Doctor about it and if he is fine maybe get him to prescribe Dosage for you in the UK before you come rather than doing your own thing

 Ok Mate so that sounds good, and at least you did not have total occlusion thus needing possible By-Pass.

 

Stents have a high success rate, and if you are going to have a problem it will be over the first week or so.

 

I know it is easy to say, but in time the fright will fade although never go and life will get back on track.

 

I guess what I am trying to say is, try not to worry so much, what will be will be, and if you are going to go, in bed with a few Thai Girls is not so bad compared to being alone in your house.

 

I am over next Month and again September and also Jan would be no problems for me keeping an eye on you Matey so worth bearing in mind ok

A work colleague of mine had that happen to him when he was travelling to Malaysia, within a week of being discharged he was back in Batam drinking, smoking and whoring to his hearts content.

 

I'd say, if you can still afford it, take the holiday but pace yourself when your here. There is nothing saying you have to hit Soi 6 and fuck 20 girls on the first day whilst downing 57 bottle of beer.

Nice to have a medic expert like Ghosty here...  Why dont you try Travel Insurance that covers existing illness.. I had that last year because i was in Hospital due to bleeding ulcers. Existing Illness only cost me €70 if i can remembered rightly.. All Clear Insurance.com

Hopefully this will put your mind at ease.

I am 70,and had a quadruple bypass 6 years ago . i visit Patts  usually 3 times a year;always alone

and manage to do everything the same as i did before the op.

A yearly insurance  for me with "all clear insurance"is £360, this covers all except USA.

Just make sure you have enough meds with you,if you do need to get more  the pharmacy on soi dianna

next to LK Metro will certainly be able to supply.

Once you decide to head to patts post on here for a wing man.

Sorry to hear this happened to you and it appears you have been given the right advice by other BM's.

 

I take my hat of to you for choosing travel insurance when you travel as anyone, that has spent an extended length of time in Thailand will have heard of people who go there 'on the cheap' deciding not to take insurance, only to end up in the hospital admissions and no one will look at you unless you have the cash up front.

 

Another habit I have got myself into is to carry a copy of my insurance in my pocket and also I let people around me know I have a 2nd copy in my room if required.

If you take Ghosties advice I believe you would have an epic 1st journey to Patts.

I had a nearly identical situation to you.

 

I was rushed in to hospital with pneumonia and whilst in there they found that I had a heart problem. I also had to have two stents fitted and because of my job I had to take time off of work. Whilst I was off ill I planned my first trip to Pattaya as a recoup sort of thing, I had no idea it would be nearly 18 months before they would let me fly.

 If you do go out at any point mate, what I would say to you is to get the best medical insurance you can! I pay quite a lot for mine, but to have the peace of mind that if I am taken ill whilst out there? all will be covered and no worries about issues around my pre-existing health troubles.

 I am 36 and it took me a long time to recover fro my health problems(because of the pneumonia) and it really helped that I just used this time to plan my trip.

 I still have times when I feel unwell, but I am sure that this is  a mental thing as I have had every test known to man and they all check out fine. As long as you follow medical advice you will be fine for your trip mate! just get good insurance and do not over do it, if I felt tired whilst there I would go back to the room and rest.

 

I hope that you get out there soon my friend! I know how much it sucks to be grounded by health issues and also how much they can play on your mind!

My first visit to Pattaya was in 1987 the same year my doctor told me i had angina and in 1989 i also has 2 stents fitted for blocked

artery's, now coming back to pattaya for trip number 35 in 5 weeks time but i have never had an heart attack only angina.

 

I was 40 years old the first time i went to pattaya but now i'm 65 years plus and always enjoy my trips to pattaya and touch wood never

had any problems as yet.

 

I am fully covered for Angina and Diabetes and it's states this on the insurance notes, i have used Staysure.co.uk and had health

screening and my insurance for my trip next month is £65 the same price as my October trip last year.

 

I'm sure Pete in what you say that you feel ok try not to think about it and go ahead with your trip just make sure you have the correct insurance.

You have dispelled the illusion the that you are a hard drinking, hard womanising, mongerer that does not give a f--k (where did I get that idea from?).  Seriously from what you have been through in regard to the change in your UK situation, what you do in your working life and your attitude to people who look for advice on the forum, (mind you some of it is shit!) I thank you, a lot of your input has helped me enjoy the last 5 years of the delights of SEA and I wish long may it continue for both of us.

Sorry you had such a rough time, I am not the healthiest specimen you will happen upon but incidences such as yours brings home how lucky I have been, I have not had a life you would class as the ideal health consciously and at 61 am often alarmed at the number of friends, old mates and people I went to school with that are not surviving. This makes me determined to be the dirty old man I waited all these years to become. Enough of the downside, hit Singapore 20/09/13 for the GP, very expensive shag probably equivalent to 4-5 K in Patts , then BKK for 2 nights and on to Patts. All the best mate, hope your back in the game soon.

My brother had heart attack two years ago and had 2 stents put in. He now says he feels healthier than he ever has in years. Cut back on eating and booze, goes to gym, plays golf and walks everywhere. Looks 10 years younger.

 

I hope your rehab goes well; have Pattaya as your target while getting better. I never came here till I was 54...you will love it.
