“Songkran Sand Magic” Treatment @ Spa Cenvaree Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya

31.jpgRising temperatures and scorching heat make us look forward to the Songkran season when we can keep cool by having fun splashing water on one another. The Water Festival also allows us to pat din so pong (marly limestone) on other people to whiten their faces.

Water, white clay and sand are Songkran-related elements in “Songkran Sand Magic”, a festive package at Spa Cenvaree of Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya.

Sand is certainly associated with summer, but you may wonder how it relates to the Thai New Year.

Songkran traditions include carrying sand into temples to build miniature sand stupas as a spiritual New Year cleansing ritual. Spa Cenvaree’s body treatments, on the other hand, deliver physical cleansing along with relaxation.

The Songkran Sand Magic package combines four treatments: a foot scrub, a body massage, a body scrub or mask and a Vichy shower or herbal bath. All in all, the pampering takes 120 minutes.

As the name of the package suggests, sand is the star ingredient. First, the foot scrub involves the use of a mixture of sand, sea salt, fresh mint leaf and neem tea. This ritual is said to help wash away negative energy.

Second, the whole body receives a soothing massage with skin-nourishing virgin coconut oil, followed by a herbal compression massage using sand pouch with heated sea sand, crushed sesame, grated ginger and warming black pepper.

The herbal pouch is dipped in coconut oil before and pressed at strategic points of the body to relax muscles. The heat from the sand pouch will help draw out toxins and bring relief to joint conditions, as well as reduce water retention.

The third step, the Sea Sand Body Exfoliating treatment, begins with smoothing yoghurt on the body before a salt scrub is used to exfoliate the skin. An alternative to the body scrub is the Thai White Clay Body Mask with the freshly-prepared mask containing “din so porng”, a traditional Thai medicinal ingredient for the treatment of certain skin conditions, as well as to beautify the complexion.

To wash off the body scrub or mask, you can choose either a stimulating Vichy shower or a detoxifying Thai herbal tea bath. The Songkran-inspired pampering is rounded off with a cup of detoxifying herbal tea at relaxation area.

“Songkran Sand Magic” spa package now available throughout May 2013 at Spa Cenvaree, Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya. Package prices at Baht 2,595++ for single and Baht 5,000++ for couple.
