A sour pork vendor found a wallet containing almost 200,000 THB in cash and a cashier’s check, which he returned to the grateful owner. The police will present an Outstanding Citizen certificate to the unusually honest Pattaya vendor.

PATTAYA – April 8, 2013 [PDN]; at 4 p.m., a lost wallet was ceremoniously returned to its owner at at Sophon Cable TV Co., Ltd. Pattaya, Chonburi province. The man who found the wallet was identified as Mr. Thaveesak Phanwilai, age 43, whose occupation is making sour pork to deliver all over Pattaya. He has a shop named Khamlah.

Mr. Thaveesak found the lost wallet at the Nong Yai railway intersection. After he picked up the wallet, he brought it back to his home and opened to see inside the wallet with his wife. They discovered the wallet contained more than 90,000 THB in cash, and a cashier’s check for 106,000 THB.

Mr. Thaveesak immediately thought to return the wallet to its owner, and coordinated with Sophon Cable TV Co., Ltd. for help in announcing to locate the owner of wallet.

In this case, the police, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha Thartsart, Commander, Chonburi province, knew about this matter, so he came to personally follow up to find the owner of the wallet, and commanded the police of Pattaya police station and Banglamung police station to follow up to find the owner to receive his wallet back.

Officers discovered that the name of the wallet owner was Mr. Reuangsak Deeboonchai, age 50, the owner of Reuangkaset rice shop, Na Kleu, Soi 13. Mr. Reuangsak had already reported his lost wallet to the police of Banglamung police station.

So Mr. Reuangsak came to Sophon Cable TV Co., Ltd. to get his wallet. He checked his recovered wallet for the cash and the cashier’s check, and found nothing was lost. He profusely thanked Mr. Thaveesak Phanwilai for his kindness, and also gave some reward money to the daughter of Mr. Thaveesak.

Mr. Thaveesak said he has been delivering pork around Pattaya for a long time, which is the occupation that provides income to take care of his family. When he found the wallet, he never considered using the money for himself or his family, because he thought that the rightful owner of money would suffer hardship from the loss.

Mr. Thaveesak knew he would not be happy if he used another person’s money. So he thought that he had better return the lost wallet to the owner. Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha Thartsart, Commander, Chonburi province, said that this incident is a good event in society, because at present it is more difficult to find good people in Pattaya, and very easy to find bad people.

This noteworthy event is a good opportunity to identify the good people in Pattaya and enable society to recognize their virtue, he said. So the upcoming monthly meeting of Chonburi police division will be presenting a prestige certificate to Mr. Thaveesak Phanwilai, naming him as an Outstanding Person, in order to honor his virtue that guides him to behave as a good person in society.
