Drinking in the heat, please share advice

Now that its extremely hot (40 degrees)  we all have to watch out for our drinking sessions.  I do my best to keep out of the heat, I have heard of a few guys dying on a 2-3 day bender.

This poor chap died (ok hes a drunk) but it goes to show that its happening right now (graphic video)

My general rules is to only drink alcohol during darkfall and stick to air con bars where possible to keep cool. (only when its a hot day)   I drink electrolyte when i wake up and when i go to sleep and i also drink water for a few hours before i go to bed and when i wake up.   I also like to wear a sleeveless shirt that I can unbutton if needed.  If i am sweating I usually wont drink alcohol.

Drinking luke warm water (same as body temperature) is meant to help.  Cold drinks make it worst. (apparently) because your metabolism increases to heat the cold water up.

As for turning on sweating and neurology. a very good article here about the TRPV1 receptors http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/07/11/156378713/cool-down-with-a-hot-drink-its-not-as-crazy-as-you-think

any more advice from anyone?  do you have one water between beers? do you have drinks that are less dehydrating?

My mate got taken to hospital in Patts after marathon drinking session and was on a drip for 24 hrs, he had collapsed in a bar.

People think drinking alcohol replaces fluid but in reality it dehydrates you, a good idea is every couple of hours is have bottle of water, this as well as having a bottle of waterbefore going to sleep helps to avoid hangovers.

In any hot country drinking a lot of water, I consider, is the most important factor.

For myself I drink at least 3 litres of water during the day in a hot country, and then go out at night usually.

If on a big session, then a pint or glass of water every few drinks, keeps one in the game, and keeps the hangover away for me.

I like open air beer bars, so air con is not so important, but sitting under a good fan in an open bar, is what I seek out.

I drink lots of water and fresh squeezed juices daytime, have a break 3 to 5pm on swimming pool, if moving daytime make several stops at shopping malls, 7/11. I was in April few times before and didn`t mind excessive humidity and heat.

Stay off the Lao Khao unlike the guy in the video and drink water as well as beer.

Ah man... that rule wouldnt work for me..... i start sweating before ive even left the lobby of my condo!

As you mentioned, the best preparation is to stay hydrated all day, especially during and after drinking... drinking water throughout the day constantly, rather than trying to chug it all in one big amount.

2-3 cocktails, 1 water... 2-3 cocktails, 1 water.... i try to stick to that routine as often as i can.

Stay in gogos, or aircon bars.... im frequently seen standing directly under the aircon units at nightwish :)

Diarrhea can greatly contribute to dehydration, so if youve got a case of the shits, make sure to hit the pharmacy and get some pills to block you up.

I drink a lot of water but I find Gatorade/electrolyte drinks actually help also....

Such a waste getting blind drunk in Pattaya.

I drink a bottle of water before i go out and the same before bed, and shagging makes you thirsty too so plenty of water on the bedside table.

I HAVE SPENT MOST OF MY MONEY ON PATTAYA WOMEN, BEER AND FLYING BACK AND FORWARDS TO LOS

THE REST I'VE SQUANDERED!!!

I live in Florida, USA, not quite as hot but in my drinking days on the beach it was a split, for every beer I also drank a bottle of water.  Also cut the beer at least an hour before bed, two aspirin and at least a liter of water and no worries.  Now this is when I am not too drunk to forget or else, throwing up, wishing I were dead, all the usual things.  Electrolytes are important, any fruit juice is nearly as good as Gatorade.

What is Electrolyte?

What is Electrolyte?

Easily bought from 7/11 for about 10 baht and mix with water to replace essential bodily fluids when on the piss.

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

Aircons will also dehydrate you .

What is Electrolyte?

Basically the salts that your body needs that are lost when you get dehydrated.

Look for Sponsor or M-Sport in the 7/11 or buy powdered versions from any pharmacy and mix with water.

Can't believe all the above posts left out the most important piece of advice here. EATING. So important to start a drinking session with a full meal. That's three courses including animal proteins, plants, carbs, fats, sugars, salts etc. The whole bloody lot. A boozy vacation in the tropics with lots of sex and late nights is not the  place for namby-pamby 'health' diets. If you want to perform like a caveman, you need to eat like one too.

Snacks and junks foods are OK now and again, but once a day you need to sit down in a comfortable environment with a menu and table service and go the hog.

I want champagne for my real frinds and real pain for my sham friends.

swimming in a mid day heat can actually dehydrate you to unless you are just lazing around.

Also remember that "too cold" drinks are a common cause of diarrhea. if you have a fragile stomach form the food its best to avoid them.

Can you drink too much water...............

...........or is that called drowning?

I learned in the army years ago that despite how you feel if you're thirsty then you're already dehydrated, and you need to replace those fluids asap. You need to be constantly topping up your body with enough water so there's no need to gulp it down as all that will do is make you wanna piss hard, sipping is fine but make sure it's frequent. I've never used the electrolyte's but they sound good, I would normally just have a salty snack and a drink of cola or something like that just so replace the salt and sugars I lost that day. Number one rule is listen to your body, problems arise when people ignore the warning signs.

“Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect -and I don't live to be- but before you start pointing fingers... make sure you hands are clean!”. Bob Marley.

Yes it's called water intoxication and some inexperienced hikers fall victim to this and die as a result

Only ever seen LaaLaa hiking to the pharmacy and back.   :hello09:

Not so sure that is the best advice. If you got the shits, this means that your body is trying to get the nasties out. Blocking it will keep them longer in your system.
