Two young Thais pretended to have an accident with their motorbike at a Pratumnak hill beach, to distract a Russian couple. Then two other Thais on another motorbike snatched her handbag. The victim’s friend chased and caught one thief, but the others escaped.

PATTAYA – April 3, 2013 [PDN]; a report of a thief being caught for stealing from a tourist was received by Pol. Capt. Thitiwat Boonorn, detective officer of the shift, Muang Pattaya police station. The incident occurred at Yinyorm beach, soi 5, Phratamnak, south Pattaya, moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi.

At the scene, police found the victimized Russian tourists detaining the thief, identified as Mr. Sakda Bannasarn, 26 years old, from Sakaew. The female victim, Mrs.Viktovi Maximova , 24 years old, was in shock waiting for the police.

Officers seized the evidence, including a cell phone and important documents. Then the police brought all of them to question at the police station.

The Russian woman said that she and her male compatriot were walking on the beach near their hotel, and 4 teenagers riding on 2 motorcycles were riding through the area. Then 2 of them pretended to have a motorcycle accident, and tried to get the attention of the Russian couple. As the victims were looking back, the woman was momentarily distracted, so the other two Thais on their motorbike came and snatched her shoulder bag.

Her friend ran after them, and during the chase the thief gave the woman’s bag to his friend waiting on the motorcycle. The friend took 2,000 baht cash, and left the woman’s wallet and the rest of her stuff in the bag at the roadside and rode away.

But one of the thieves could not get back on the motorcycle in time, so her friend caught him.

When questioned by police, the suspected gave confused and unclear replies. The police checked his record, and found the suspect had been imprisoned for several crimes involving drugs and stealing.

The police believed the thieves had planned their theft well, and had done it many times previously. Detectives will question the suspect again to expand the investigation and track down the rest of the thieves to prosecute.
