Immigration police arrested a 20-year-old Indonesian murder suspect at Don Meuang airport. He was planning to fly to Udon Thani and take a bus to Laos. Last year he and three other men murdered an Indonesian’s millionaire’s son in Jakarta because of an unpaid gambling debt.

BANGKOK – April 2, 2013 [PDN]; the arrest of a fourth suspect for a murder in Indonesia last year was announced at a press conference by Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanu Kerdlarpphol, Commissioner, Immigration office, Pol. Maj. Gen. Natthorn Phrausoonthorn, Deputy Commissioner, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Ronnasil Phusara, Commander.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Mulyadi Budiman, age 20, nationality Indonesian. He is accused with three other men of murdering Mr. William Lim, age 24, in Jakarta last year. The murder victim is the son of Indonesian millionaire, and was killed over an unpaid gambling debt.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanu said he had coordinated with the Indonesian police via the foreign division of Royal Thai police to assist in the investigation to follow up to track down Mr. Mulyadi. The three other suspects were arrested in September last year in Indonesia. But Mr. Mulyadi had fled the country.

The Thai immigration police investigated to locate the fugitive. From inspecting traveling documents, officials discovered that Mr. Mulyadi had entered Thailand on March 20, 2013 from Singapore.

They discovered that Mr. Mulyadi was preparing to escape to Laos in order to make the new passport at Vientiane. He had booked the airplane ticket from Bangkok to Udon Thani province, and had intended to travel by bus to Vientiane.

Mr. Mulyadi was arrested on April 1in the early morning at Don Meuang airport, by a team of arresting officers together with Pol. Col. Veerayos Karoonyathorn, superintendent of the immigration office of Don Meuang airport.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Ronnasil said that during the initial investigation, Mr. Mulyadee confessed that he and his friends murdered Mr. William Lim on March 12, 2012 in Jakarta.

They used a plastic bag to cover his head, and then used the hammer to hit him until he died. The four suspects had been hired to collect an unpaid gambling debt from the victim. He refused to pay, so they beat him to death.

Mr. Lim reportedly owed 8,000 million Indonesian rupiah, or approximately 24 million THB. The murder victim is the only son of Mr. Paul Lim, the head of a millionaire family that owns the Indonesian kitchenware business brand B. Mar.

For this case, the Indonesian police had sent 5 police officers to join together to investigate the defendant in order to pick him up and take him back to Indonesia to prosecute further.
