A 29-year-old ex-convict was caught after trying to escape on his motorbike from a police checkpoint at Soi Nongkrabok. A pursuing officer deliberately swerved into the suspect’s bike to make it crash. Police seized a bag of ya-ice and a homemade pistol from the suspect.

PATTAYA – April 2, 2013 [PDN]; At 1 a.m., volunteer police officers chased and caught an ex- convict on a motorbike who tried to escape a police checkpoint being supervised by Pol. Sub. Lt. Chuphong Charernsri, Deputy Inspector, Nong Preu police station.

The Deputy Inspector had brought the forces of the head of police of Khao Talo sentry box and the volunteer police to set up the checkpoint to inspect for illegal items at Soi Nongkrabok across the railway, Moo 7, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Supoj or Boy Srimokha, age 29, who had a black waist bag that was found to contain a bag of ya-ice, and a home-made pistol with bullets. He was driving a red-grey Suzuki Smash motorbike. Mr. Supoj had been driving his motorbike at a high speed when he approached the police checkpoint. When he saw the police, he hurried to escape the opposite way toward Sukhumvit Road.

The suspect tried to turn into Thai Namthip Co., Ltd. which was a deserted area. He was being chased by a volunteer police officer on a motorbike, identified as Mr. Mamoon Pechnaibor. The officer decided to swerve into the suspect’s motorbike until it overturned, injuring the suspect.

After searching in the waist bag of Mr. Supoj, police found a Thai homemade gun which was ready to use. Police seized 5 M16 bullets and a .380 Super cartridge. During questioning, Mr. Supoj confessed that the homemade gun was originally a BB gun. But as a former soldier, he had experience with firearms and knew how to modify it so it could be used like a real gun

As for the ya-ice, he had just bought the drug for 1,000 THB to consume at his house. Mr. Supoj admitted he had spent 5 years in prison on drug charges, but was not afraid of another penalty. But he finally was arrested by police again.
