A video clip is spreading through the internet showing a farang getting beaten by Thai men. The beating reportedly happened in the Marine Plaza, after the drunk farang broke a snooker cue and refused to pay for damages. Police are investigating.

pdn354.jpgPATTAYA – March 30, 2013 [PDN]; Police are investigating a 40-second video clip posted online that shows a group of Thai men attacking a foreigner. A caption states the brawl had just occurred in the morning, at the Marine Plaza in south Pattaya, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi.

The clip shows three to four Thai strong men chasing and hurting a white man until he falls on the floor. Someone seems to try and stop it, who was wearing a green waist coat of a taxi motorbike driver. He tries to restrain them by talking to a man called “Moo” wearing black T-shirt.

But theThais did not stop their beating as they shouted loud insults at the farang. Then they grabbed a helmet on a nearby motorcycle basket to throw at the foreigner before they separated.

According to witnesses at the incident, the reason for the thrashing was because the farang went to play snooker, and accidentally broke the cue. But when the parlor owner asked him to pay for the damage, he refused and quarreled with the female owner. This led to his beating.

On March 31, the alleged beating victim, Mr. Stuart Mezes Lewi, 58 years old, a former British marine, came to see the police of Muang Pattaya police station. He was accompanied by his Thai wife, Mrs. Kesuda Lewi, 35 years old.

Mrs. Kesuda told the police that her husband just came from drinking with his friends on Walking Street. It was morning, and he was still drunk. But he felt hungry, so he told her that he would go out to eat. But not long afterwards, she heard that he got beaten, but she did not know why.

The authorities have also detained two young men who appeared in the video, Mr.Prasert (surname withheld), 25 years old; and Mr. Wonsathorn (surname withheld), 19 years old.

They confessed that they had beaten the farang man, but it was because he had been about to hurt a Thai woman. They tried to stop the farang, but he got violent and tried to hurt them back. So they got into a quarrel, and fought against the farang in self defense.

Authorities have questioned witnesses at the scene, and discovered that the foreigner had drunk beer at the bar, and walked and struck property at the scene. Then the damage occurred and the farang started haggling with the shopkeeper, who was a Thai woman. The white man then started breaking and throwing properties in the shop.

So in retaliation the belligerent farang was beaten by the Thais, which was filmed by someone and posted on the internet. Police will continue to track down all the men shown in the video to investigate again, because the images of Thais beating a foreigner negatively affects tourism.

Even though the Thais said the farang victim was insane because he was drunk, what the men did was against the law because they ganged up on him. The authorities will continue to seek to provide justice to all parties.

The farang is lucky. It could have been much worse.

Nothing braver than a bunch of Thai savage midgets beating the shit out of a drunken falang at four to one!!!

Posted

Yes really brave are'nt they 4 on to 1 against a 58 year old.

Posted

Drunk or Pissed ( the latter seems more appropriate ) damaging property, probably causing a scene, and most likely thinking he was a Jack the Lad some may say he got what was coming !!

For sure 4 against 1 is not fair but then a Black Mans Bum isn't Fair either is it ? Just the way of the World and in Thailand it always pay to make a minimum amount of fuss if you are in the wrong or being accused of being in the wrong

Far better he paid and that would of been the end of it

Two side to every story I guess

you seem to forget that some thai man have deep emotions about farang and are just waiting for a chance to fuck one over!!

i dont really care what the way of the thai is this is totally uncalled for whatever he did...

there is police /toerist police that could easily fixed this instead of beating a man silly which happens more often then you think!!!

it could turn out for the bad and he could die even in my country some senseless beatings are ended with the victim dying...

and yes there are two sides to every story and that could also be him having to pay a ridiculous amount etc..

i reckon this is uncalled for whatever happend and how ever pissed he was it can be you next time for beeing drunk and bumping into someone...

and its not the thai way totall BS if it was they wouldnt be caught by the police and sentenced its the thai mans way of hurting a farang when ever he gets the slightest chance...

fucking animals just waiting there turn to kick the guy laying on the ground...

Just the slightest opportunity the kicks and punches come from all angles they don't even have to know what the commotion is about ,these chances don't go begging when it comes to fucking up a farlang like ghost medic said use minimum amount of fuss at all times and if you are very lucky you might just escape a gang beat down

Posted

Plenty of this goes on you just do not always hear about it, the problem is with Thais you can win a one on one but its when they come back with 10 motorbikes full of there friends you start to worry,

Seen plenty over the years and Thais fight in gangs, it's a joke,

Aways the same for a lot of Thai men..wait for the opportunity and vent there anger on some poor drunk farang in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I have seen many farang in Pattaya that did deserve a good slap for abusing women and never got it..and a lot getting a good slap that didnt deserve it..Face facts Pattaya is going down the toilet for years and years..Most of the crimes that happen are hidden..If the real amount of crimes murders deaths and suicides were ever broadcast..every embassy would warn against going to Pattaya.

So how much does a snooker cue cost, anyway?

10 days ago, a malaysian friend 26 years of age, and i, went to walking street. at 3 am. i am 43 years of age from australia. fitter and look much younger then most farang in patts. on the night in question, a wednesday night. we just arrived at ws, near insomnia. as we were looking for a bar to play pool and have fun.i notice two, 16 year old thai boys trying to pick pocket my friend, whilst 2 of their older thais were watching over proceedings. i tell the boys to stop. at that moment, a young thai boy punches me in the face. as hard as a man. then the others attack my friend. i am calm because, i have lived in patts for 18 months. and know what can happen in w.s. so i tell the young guy who punched me, he fucked up, because i am not a tourist, i grab my malaysian friend who is of indian origin, and escort him from walking street. we both have black eyes swollen lip, and cut on face. my friend is bleeding bad from the nose. as we are about to exit ws. at the start near patt beer garden. i see a large tourist police in uniform, i go to him and explain what happend. and he says i am finished work, and is not interested. so upon exiting walking st. my friend visbly shaken, as though he had never been in a fight in his life. we try to get motorbike taxi home. and out of 10 m.t. they refuse to take us.we did not even get to enter any bar. also we had to be humiliated by have black eyes for the next week in public, everyone thinks we are trouble makers. far from it. because of these little cunts. no matter what, you can not fight or defend yourself, in walking st, and many other parts of patts. i have seen many bad things from people being stabbed, and attacked with machetes. as i say i am in good shape to defend myself, better then most farang here. lived here 18 months.  but how do you defend yourself, against knives and machetes, and guns. and being out numbered by thais who want to gang up and hurt you. even if the thais dont know you, or the other thai peple attacking you. or the reason why you are trying to escape a beating or death, from a low life. 2 nights later i am in yuthful bar nth patts. to watch the band, they are great band. then someone steals my bag with money and simcard. while i am in the toilet. i know it is staff related, as when i finish in the toilet to my amazement. the owner says no problem i paid your bill. and i am expected to leave, the bar. that was before i noticed my bag gone. then i go to police station, to report the theft. and the police man asks why i have a black eye. i explain what happend, 2 nights earlier in ws. he is not interested in that story. only tries to convince me, am i sure the name of the bar, my bag and money was stolen. can i provide my passport if required. i am a decent gul let the beating in walking st. slide but after the beating and 2 nights later being robbed clearly by the yuthful bar. thought enough is enough. police gave me som paper work told me to go find a police man in any street, i do this, then i have to pay motorbike taxi to the bar. and police man comes to yuthful bar. and owner comes out onto the street. says i am lying, and they dont have cameras in the bar. the police man, never enters the bar to ask the staff did they see what happend. even at my requests, to do so. and just stands their smilling at me. making me angry. him and the bar owner just working together. just another dumb atm farang. fuck him. so i go back to the police station and explain, that the police officer did not even enter the bar. or do a proper enquiry. soon learn at the station, that i am wasting my time police dont care for me. so just on finishing, ghostly, you are full of shit. not all thai people are bad. but you need to look with youe eyes open.

I do hope that man will learn his lesson after this incident... He is very very lucky to have a motor taxi man at present or he will be back home with a bodybag...  15 times in Thailand, i never had one fights. Never ever fight on their own backgrounds. It is better to be a coward than a brave man facing ten thai men.

Have been to Thailand 10 times or more, lived in Bangkok for 2.5 years - during that time spent most weekends in the Nana/Soi Cowboy area or in Pattaya. Every holiday spent mostly the same way with the odd trip to up north.

Strongly agree with dirfon's three rules. Also important in my view to get at least a rudimentary understanding of Thai culture and society and how falangs are percieved in different parts of the country. You will be perceived completely differently wearing long pants and a shirt and tie walking down Silom than you will be wearing a tank top and shorts stumbling out of a bar in WS at 0300!

Also it's your responsibility to know the environment you are entering into and behave appropriately and understand you are a guest in Thailand. It's been said before but put yourself in their shoes.... an easy mark is an easy mark in any country, never leave your bag unattended with your money and phone in it while you take a piss, wow!

Having said that there is no excuse for a four on one beating in normal circumstances but none of us know the full story...

I have never had a serious problem in Thailand (touch wood!) and think as long as you show respect when it is deserved, do unto others as you would have then do to you, don't show weakness, don't be a cheap charlie (never waste your hard earned though!), learn some thai words and smile you'll have a blast imho...

There is a MASSIVE thread about this on ThaiVisa. Turns out this guy was playing the innocent tourist bit and his mates saying what a great family man he is when someone found a news article from a couple of years back where he got into another fight with a Thai when drunk trying to take a pi$$ up a Buddha statue.

All went to the police station when he suddenly realized he wasn't wearing his 350,000thb neck chain. Oh really? Yes he said it was worth 350k.

Whilst I deplore the Thai pack 'fighting style' this time the tourist does have history of problems.

That is correct but what happens if you accidentally bump a cue and the already loose tip pops off and the cue is then broken in two across your head? I think that the reporting skills of the farang press in Pattaya is appalling and always take what they report with a grain of salt.

Yes, I also see the Thai MC man wearing the green MC jacket kicking the crap out of the farang, so Christ only knows where that bit of the story came from that the MC man tried to stop the fight.

Anyway it seems the farang went into a Thai snooker place. When will these farang ever learn? DO NOT go to bars that have Thai men drinking in them. DO NOT go to snooker places with Thai men in them. Keep well away from Thai men. Keep all contact with Thai men to a bare minimum. DO NOT try to be "friends" with Thai men who are drinking and playing pool/snooker. They loath foreigners and relish an opportunity to beat the crap out of a farang.

Am I just crazy,

If you have to ask then the answer is yes you are! ;-)

Would you believe in the Thai national media? Not sure if it was the papers or TV news but they jumped on it saying the Farrang was wrong. I mean what else can they say if people were to really understand how volatile this place can be at certain times/places more loss of face....
