A 22-year-old man was arrested for flashing a pistol at a concert near the Hard Rock hotel during the Pattaya Music Festival. Security officers had searched concertgoers, but did not find his gun. The Thai man said he was only showing off the gun because he was drunk and feeling happy.

PATTAYA – March 24, 2013 [PDN]; At 1 a.m., a music festival concertgoer was arrested at the Blue stage near the Hard Rock hotel for flashing a gun. The suspect was watching the Buddha Bless band perform a concert, along with an estimated 10,000 tourists and residents.

Making the arrest was Pol. Sub. Lt. Chalermchai Chaising, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station, with the plainclothes police team. The officers were on duty to guard against crime during the March 22-25 Pattaya International Music Festival 2013, held along Beach Road.

The suspect had been dancing with his friends in the concert. He was a tall and rather fat Thai man with light-colored skin, wearing blue jeans, canvas shoes and a red-striped shirt.

When the concert was almost finished, the suspect suddenly took out a gun from his waistband to show off in front of others. This made onlookers feel frightened. So the police went to arrest him, and seized a .22 caliber Thai homemade gun, along with 6 bullets and leather bag, which the police kept for evidence.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Jaturon or Best Phocharern, age 22. During questioning, Mr. Jaturon told police he came to the concert with his friend “Mr. Boy.” On the way to the concert, Mr. Boy gave the gun to him to take to the Blue concert stage in central Pattaya.

So Mr. Jaturon decided to hide the gun in his underwear. He walked to the entrance to the concert spectator area, where officers were frisking people and searching bags before allowing entry.

But the officers only searched him hastily and did not find the gun. So he walked into the concert area. The concert was so much fun, Mr. Jaturon took out the gun to show off only. He told police he didn’t have an intention to shoot anyone. He only did it because he got drunk and was feeling good.

Initially, the police will investigate the suspect in detail again and will follow up to prosecute Mr. Boy, if he is the owner of the gun as the suspect claimed. The police sent Mr. Jaturon with the evidence to the investigation officer to prosecute further according to the law.
