Nong Preu police arrested 7 juvenile delinquents for throwing rocks at people’s cars from a road flyover. Four drivers reported damaged vehicles from the rocks. Police discovered that several teens were part of a gang that was stealing property in the area.

PATTAYA – March 20, 2013 [PDN]; At 9:30 a.m., the arrests of seven teens for throwing rocks at people’s cars was announced by Pol. Col. Somneuk Jankate, Superintendent, Nong Preu police station, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province, Pol. Lt. Col. Dechraphee Khongdee, Deputy Superintendent, Pol. Lt. Col. Khongsak Boonseusuwan, Deputy Superintendent, Pol. Lt. Col. Thanadech Duangtapiyachai, investigation officer, Pol. Capt. Kornphong Sukvisit, Deputy Inspector; together with detective police team.

The seven suspects were identified as: Mr. Sitthichai or Boy Rakson, age 18; Mr. Sam, age 15; boy Art, age 14; boy Aek, age 14; Mr. Nut, age 16; boy Pooth, age 14; and boy George, age 14.

Police seized the evidence that included 4 rocks and 3 motorbikes that were used to make trouble. Four victims whose vehicles were damaged pointed out the suspects to arrest.

Pol. Col. Somneuk revealed that at 11 p.m., one of the victims, Mr. Pisit Piriyawattana, age 58, came to notify the investigation officer that teenage boys had thrown rocks at his vehicle.

He was driving his 4-door, golden dragon Isuzu pickup truck to go back home, and using the motorway road route 7 part 5, entrance side to Pattaya.

When he approached the bridge of Hin village head, Moo 3 Tambon Pong, Amphur Banglamung, suddenly there were teenage boys who threw rocks at his pickup truck, and broke his mirror. The rock pierced through the mirror and also hit his chest, which got injured.

After Pol. Col. Somneuk was notified, he commanded Pol. Lt. Col. Khongsak Boonseusuwan, Deputy Superintendent, to bring the forces of the detective police team to watch for the teens and arrest them.

Then at 2 a.m., officers found a group of about 10 teenagers who were driving their motorbikes to park under the flyover, and they were taking rocks to go up to the flyover.

The police went to arrest them, but the group of teenagers quickly drove away on the motorbikes to escape. So the police followed up to chase them, and arrested 7 teenagers on Soi Mab 2 Baan Nong Yai, Moo 6 Tambon Na Kleu.

During questioning by police, Mr. Sitthichai confessed that he had joined with his younger friends in their gang, “Lang-le,” to travel to the temple fair. Then one of his friends persuaded the gang to throw rocks from the flyover across the motorway road.

They started putting the rocks on the handrail of the bridge, and used their hands to sweep the rocks to try to hit the cars to challenge their accuracy. Mr. Sitthichai said the gang members did the rock throwing on an impetuous impulse. They did not intend to cause accidents or steal property if the cars crashed.

Pol. Col. Somneuk revealed that 3 more drivers who were victims came to notify police and point out the defendants. They were identified as Mr. Disorn Boonreuang, age 43, the driver of a Sunlong tour bus; Ms. Kanyarat Khamkaew, age 33, the owner of Ford Ranger pickup truck; and Mr. Surasak Amornworanit, age 40, the owner of a Honda Civic. Police inspecting the 3 vehicles found that their front mirrors were broken.

Mr. Disorn said that he was driving the tour bus to refill gas. When he approached the upper flyover, someone threw the rock that hit his bus and broke its mirror. So he hurried to get off the bus to check, and saw the group of teenagers on the flyover. But he was afraid of being beaten, so he came to notify the police.

After their initial investigation, the police assumed that the group of teenagers might have come out every day to throw the rocks at night. From checking the history of some defendants, police found that they were involved in a gang that was stealing property in the area.

The police will investigate further and follow up to arrest the rest of the defendants who had escaped while being chased by officers, in order to prosecute them according to the law.
