Its always tough to get Pesos here. Your best bet might be Bangkok Banks (big ones in BKK more likely) or one of the unauthorized guys you find find around.

No time to go downtown BKK before departure.

Would you instead recommend taking cold cash (USD or Baht) with me and take a chance to change upon arrival this Sunday ? I would expect many Exchange counters to be closed on Palm Sunday...

Take $US cash with you. I always save a few thousands pesos, for the first day/ night of my next trip, as i can get in to clark late. But if i find myself short, I get $US dollars from the ATM at bangkok airport. Most hotels, i have stayed at will change the $US into pasos, upon checking in. An alternative is to change baht into $US,  before you go.

Thanks for your help folks,

I just gave a try at the tiny Exchange booth on corner of 2nd Rd. & Soi 6/1 in Pattaya.

They got 2,000 PHP on hand and will have 20K more within 12 hrs. (though they asked for a 500 THB deposit before ordering...)

None of the major Banks offered me this option today... :Finger5:

i took thai baht with me about a year ago not many places will change it not even western union.

i suggest you take american dollar you should be able to change it at the airport on arrival an your hotel will probably let you pay with dollars

but i strongly advise against taking thai baht as you will be running around trying to find a place that will change it and when you do it will be at a lower rate

all the best have a good time

ATM at the airport when you get there would be your best bet.

There is an exchange place in Jomtien, Soi 5, a couple of doors inland from what used to be the British consulate office. They carry a wide range of currencies although I'm not 100% they have PHP.

Live for the moment. Tomorrow may not come.

HI,

In south Pattaya road , you enter the soi just in front of CAT. On the left you have a exchange Chinese shop. They can give you almost all kind of foreign currency.

In Angeles no problems changing,Thai Baht, American,Canadian,Aussie & Kiwi Dollars,Euros and £ Sterling so I wouldn't worry too much as your Hotel will no doubt change up enough money, probably at a shit rate,to get you thru your first night.

I've got 1100 peso that I want to get rid of. It's not much but it would buy you a taxi, a meal and such until you find an ATM on the ground. If you want send a PM.

Be aware that you're only allowed to bring in 10,000 pesos (about $250 USD) but are allowed up to $10,000 USD in foreign currency.

Like everyone else has been saying, best to just bring USD

Have never had any problem changing Thai Baht in Angeles, if you change Baht into Dollars and then Change to Pesos you will lose out big time with the exchange rates.

If you get your Baht by exchanging pounds then it makes sense to buy Pesos instead. Also with the way the Asian currencies are going up and Western currencies are going down I would think about changing all my pounds to the currency I'm spending.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"

The TMB bank inside the departures area at Swampy stock Pesos.

I usually exchange a few THB so I have some php when I arrive if I don't have many left from a previous trip. The problem with using an ATM in Phils to get currency is the 200php charge per transaction and I have found the exchange rate better outside of the airport both in Clarke (Angeles) and Manila.

I recently started a whiskey diet......I've lost three days already!

I got into Mactan, Cebu at 0400 the other morning and there were two booths operating. I've arrived in Manila on a transfer at a similar time and the place was rammed.

I seriously doubt you won't find cash exchange regardless of what day it is.

The rate for the USD is 39 pesos here at the moment; same for AUD - which is bullshit as the AUD is buying 1.046 USD atm.

I figured that out in Europe when I gave a 5 dollar bill for a paper cup of coffee and got some euroshit coins in return.
