Rowdy Gamblers Pay Dearly For Raising Ruckus

Police raided a construction labor camp near Pratumnak Hill and arrested 9 people on gambling charges. Officers also arrested 6 laborers who are illegal immigrants. Police staged the raid after receiving complaints about the noisy gamblers and illegal alien workers.

PATTAYA – March 18, 2013 [PDN]; At 2 a.m., a raid at a construction labor camp suspected of gambling activity and housing illegal laborers was conducted by Pol. Capt. Seksack Artornkitjawat, vice suppression inspector, Muang Pattaya police station, with the civil defense forces.

The raid took place at the construction labor camp of Power Lai company in soi Pratumnak 3, moo 12, Nongprue, Banglamung. Police arrested 9 Hi-Lo gamblers, along with Ms. Lampueng Tiamlert, 37 years old, who confessed to being a host of the gambling game. Officers seized the point papers, cash, plate, and pairs of dice.
The police also arrested 6 illegal laborers. The police conducted the raid after they were informed by some residents that a lot of illegal alien laborers were working at the camp who were gambling too often and making noise.

The police sent the gamblers along with the evidence to the detectives to prosecute. As for the illegal aliens who came to Thailand in violation of the law, the police will send them back to their home towns.

Sad. Why is it that people who can least afford it tend to gamble the most? I guess it must provide a temporary escape from the reality of a feeling that a "big win" is the only hope they have to escape their seemingly endless cycle of poverty.
