I looked at the Apple store Thailand online and the prices look compatable to here in the US. Is there a dealer in Pattaya or Bangkok where I could buy directly (in stock) a MacBook Air? Is the VAT tax the only tax or is there an additional sales tax? ANy info much appreciated.

I just got a Macbook pro 2 weeks ago in the Apple store at the ground floor of Tukcom in South Pattaya, prefer that shop above Royal Garden PLaza and the one in Central Festival. Better customer service!

The prices are almost similar as in the online Apple store of Thailand and if you fly back to the States you can get your VAT back of course.

Just a note of warning.  You get the VAT tax back IF you are on a tourist visa AND you leave within a certain time period.  I think 60 days but not sure.

I am sure if you exceed that time period they will not refund VAT.  I was here 85 days last trip and bought a macbook pro thinking I'd be refunded the VAT.  I was not.

Dont know if the rules were different 2.5 years ago but then i bought a laptop before a vacation trip to Europe and took my laptop and receipt with me and i just got the whole VAT back at the airport. 3 weeks later i was back in LOS again :)
