Music Licence for Bar

A bar owner friend of mine has just been raided again for music license. He showed the license he obtained last time from the Music Copyright place in Bangkok and was told he now needed Three licenses! He was fines again (Or should I say robbed)

Looks like another change that no one is informed aboput and they are now starting a new phase of fining bars.

Can someone please confirm if 3 licenses are now required and what the other two licenses are?

I have my copyright license and an Entertainment license, what else do I need as I do not play Thai Music?

Chris

Just another day in Paradise!

You need a license for the music you are playing. Farang music is administered by MCT Phonorights (www.1stopmusic.com).

For Thai Music there are two large Companies, RST and Grammy. If you are sure you don't play their music, you don't need a license. But once the raiders find a Thai CD in your club, even if it belongs to your staff or gust, and you don't play it, you're sucked in.

Also don't forget: These Copyright affairs are civilian law issues. Police has no right to interfer. If cought, refuse to pay anything.

One more thing: If you play music from a Computer, you need an extra license for this from MCT Phonorights!

Hey, interesting laws and regs in Thailand at times. I just finished a book called "Welcome to Hell", by Colin Martin, about an Irishman who spent 8 years in BKK Hilton for a crime he didnt do. He got scammed by forigeners, and then got framed for murder. through the book he writes that if he'd paid the bribe to the police, the whole mess could have been cleared up. he would have had to admit he was guilty. It's autobiography with photos and all. Must be hard to setup business there and know how to operate and who to trust. I guess Murder is a lot heavier than copyright for music  , but still - when do you pay the fines and when do you fight it?
