A Toyota SUV collided with a Toyota Vios as it was crossing 4 traffic lanes on Sukhumvit to get to a U-Turn near Naklua. The impact caused the SUV to fall on its side. A 23-year-old female passenger in the Vios suffering from apparent spinal injuries was the only person seriously injured.

PATTAYA – March 3, 2013 [PDN]; at 2:30 a.m., a report of two cars colliding near a U-turn in North Pattaya was received by Pol. Maj. Capt. Anocha Nanchai, detective officer of the shift of Pattaya police station. Police rushed to the scene with the rescuers from Sawangboriboon Thammasathan Pattaya, along with the equipment car.

The incident occurred at the U-turn in front of Chairat Tires near the north Pattaya traffic light junction on Sukhumvit Road, Sattahip inbound, moo 6, Naklua.

At the scene, officers found several injured persons, including a seriously injured female passenger pinned in one vehicle with apparent spinal injuries. The victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of a heavily damaged black Toyota Vios.

The victim was identified as Ms. Patsopa Sangsawan, 23 year old. Her boyfriend was driving the car and suffered minor injuries. He was identified as Mr. Wisanu Chaoraj, 22 years old. After stabilizing her spine, rescuers removed Ms. Patsopa from the vehicle and rushed her to Banglamung hospital.

The other car involved in the collision was a golden bronze Toyota Hilux Sport Rider, which was lying on its side on the middle of the road and its body heavily damaged. Nearby was the driver, identified as Mr. Suttinan Pumpruksa, 25 years old, along with two female passengers. They had some scratches and sprains, so the rescuers gave them first aid.

Witnesses told police that the Sport Rider had driven out from the gas station and cut across four lanes to get to the U-turn, to join Highway 7 to Bangkok. However, a fast-approaching Toyota Vios was about to collide with the Sport Rider cutting across the highway. The Vios driver tried a zig zag maneuver to avoid the collision, but crashed into the Sport Rider hard, causing the SUV to spin away and fall on its side.

After questioning witness and the vehicles’ occupants, police initially suspected one of the drivers was falling asleep at the wheel, or the couple in the Vios was quarreling, causing the driver to lose control. However, the police will investigate more thoroughly before reaching any conclusions.
