WOODLANDS RESORT

I am quite concerned about my booking at this hotel. My mate stayed there in June and did not pay a guest fee however the link to hotels on pattayaone.com says it is 1000 THB :D . I have booked two double rooms for myself and my mate in December and the confirmation voucher from the booking agent has two rooms, 4 adults on it. Will they still charge us as we will be checking in alone? Last time I stayed there, admittedly a while ago(Songkran 2006) we just left the girls ID card with the security guard and collected it the next morning, no questions, no fee. I am not a cheap Charlie but a grand is a bit steep. Has anyone else stayed there recently and can advise on the exact situation? Thanks in advance.

At the end of the day if you book "double occupancy" you should not have a problem.

Too many people book "single occupancy" to save mopney and if you do this they are perfectly correct to charge a guest fee.

Thanks for the reply WhiteSpider, that's what I have always done but I did read a report on TripAdvisor posted by a Japanese guy.He did not state if he booked double occupancy but was miffed to say the least about the guest fee.

Anyway heres hoping things go smoothly :OMFG:

Yes, it's true that when you book a double room you don't need to pay a guest fee, some like Amari want that you check in with the girl, or some like Royal cliff doesn't want that the girl go around the hotel. Some like the Aisawan doen't want to answer for my list of hotels in pattayaone. Also usually most hotels charge you about 300 bahts for bring a second girl, some charge 100 bahts but the breakfast is including for the guest. Most hotels under 1000 bahts does'nt charge guest and some like Cosy charge 200 baht and 400 bahts in high season. Some changes the RULES some day, like the Buakhao hotel in soi Buakhao, i ask one day before i go : answer no joiner, i stay there 50 bahts joiner fee...I check in September/ October 2007 most hotels hotels of my list in Pattayaone, but the hotel list will be totally finished, most hotels with infos and photos, in the end of this month.

Problem with booking a double is that some hotels will insist that if you change partners you have to pay joiner fee. So just the first night will be free

I know what you8 mean guys but this is not STRICTLy correct so I will clarify.

Almost all hotel rooms here are "double rooms" (certainkly the larger hotels where you might have a problem with guests).

"Double Rooms" can therefore be booked for "single" or "double" OCCUPANCY.

If you pay for double occupancy that entitled up to two people to stay is its more expensive than single occupancy at outset.

Just to add to the confusion - double occupancy does NOT usually mean two breakfasts included :(

For all sense and purpose its a terminology used for a single person who MIGHT have a friend stay over.

Right let me help you with this one.

Woodlands Resort is THE NUMBER 1 most guest unfriendly hotel in Pattaya.

It's a real shame as it's a nice hotel and as I love Naklua in a perfect place.

Some of the package firms offer terrific deals if you stay at Woodlands. I actually booked one from a website. It was £550 for 14 nights in June including direct flights with BA and airport transfers.

It does have a worrying sign in reception saying no guests and if it's still the same French manager 'boy' does he enforce it.

First night I took a girl back the girl at desk called him and he had great pleasure in telling me she could not stay.

To cut a long story short I ended up paying 500 a night even though I told him I would not be changing lady and staying with same one. This was for a room I had paid extra single suppliment as well.

The whole place is anti monger and I'd give it a miss totally. East Sea Resort next door is user friendly, cheaper and IMHO nicer.

Loads of fella's I meet in Naklua make the mistake of booking Woodlands and yes it has gone up to 1000 a night for a guest.

Don't give them satisfaction. Stay somewhere else.

Thanks for the heads up, Mirkwood. Sorely tempted to change hotels now. Will consult with my mate to see what he thinks. Will cost us £35 - £40 to cancel but would cost £240+ between us to pay the guest fee over the 8 night stay. The problem being it's only 25 days until we leave and we could end up paying more than what we booked the Woodlands for at another hotel. :o . You suggested the East Sea Resort but there is no price guide on their website. Also not many rooms. Can you advise? cheers.

East Sea has 3 wings.

The 'Old' wings 1 and 2 are around 1000 baht a night give or take 100 depending on seasons. The new 3 wing is lovely but it's 1500 a night.

Wing 2 is your best bet. Pools bit older and sheets on bed not as nice as 3 but thats about it.

Bit of history about the Woodlands.

Firstly its a family run hotel, ( mother & two daughters) Both the daughters were educated in America & Australia. A very wealthy family, with finacial intrests in both Pattaya & Bangkok.

The family is regarded in Pattaya as high society people.

The Woodlands is totally geared towards a family resort. If you arrive with your wife & kids you earn the greatest respect from them.

Booking into this place & using it as somewhere to bed the tee raks is a non starter & you will be lucky to get them past the door ! In the event that you get them by the door you will be surely frowned upon by its owners.

My advice would be to find somewhere a lot less tolerable than the Woodlands. Which will be a shame as it is a great place.

Usually when you book a double room you don't ned to pay a joiner, it's valid for good hotel like Siam bayview, Siam bayshore, but for example in Amari the guest relation service say to me that if you book a double room you have to check in together and stay with the same girl...In Pattaya centre hotel if you come with the girl in reception and book a room no joiner.

Joiner seem to be important but in fact 90 % of the customer going for girls in Pattaya are in hotels under or aound 1000 bahts and those hotels doesn't have joiner fee. In the other hotels the extrem are Marriott : No joiner and Royal wing and Sheraton theorically no girls allowed. In Royal Cliif the girl can not go on swimming pool or other area. So in fact joiner concern only about 40-50 hotels and the total of the hotels, guest houses and condos in Pattaya are over 500.

I've stayed in the Woodlands a number of times, mainly with family. I would say the hotel is very guest friendly, however don't push it too far, this is a real family hotel so don't parade your honey's around too much, it get's us family men too envious !

Stayed at woodlands on numerous occasions over the past 5 years, found it to be a great hotel and very friendly.

Always stayed single occupancy in a double room and never had any problems with joiners/visitors, The security and reception were always smiling and laughing when we rolled in at 4-5am with a diff girl every night. We were even given 2 breakfast voucher for each morning and if you are thick skinned, taking your bar girl down to breakfast in her best evening wear, high heels, hotpants and a boob tube was always quite entertaining.

Off the top of my head i think we were paying about £40/2000baht per night for a great room in what is quite a plush hotel. We did not pay a joiner fee of any sort, but this may be because we booked through a English run Pattaya based tour company who put a lot of business Woodlands way and have a good relationship with the European management.

On the last occasion we were there, the hotel guest list included the competitors for the Miss World (ladyboy) that Pattaya hosted last year. Quite strange around the pool, 15/20 bikini'd ladyboys and a good mix of families with children.

Maybe the hotel is not a stuck up as some might think.

Still, its a bit to far away from everything, for me to stay there again this year.
