I'd find it unsettling if a Thai hooker called me the same term ("Papa") as my 2 year old granddaughter uses, but that's just me...

Lucky for me it's cool, been called that for 58 years. Kinda used to it now. Really like it when she screams it out in delight.

  Get them to call you Uncle   [ lung ]   much more respectful  IMO . I don't accept being called papa or Pe  .  Introduce your self as lung peter , for example and they will continue to call you that .

I would much rather be called Papa or Pops than "old man". My daughter calls me Pops. So I take is as a sign of respect and affection.
