Limited choice of small bikes in Thailand

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I am having a short break in Bali (Indonesia) and am really impressed with the style of some of the small capacity motorcycles here.

Anybody know if the main manufacturers plan to introduce similar models to Thailand?

Surely there would be a market for these style machines.

Honda do the CBR150R but I've not seen any new bikes from Yamaha, Kawasaki or Suzuki in that size or style. KTM do a very nice Duke 200 but it's way overpriced in Thailand.

Honda, a very conservative company, dominates in Thailand and is happy to keep going with the cash cow that is the Honda Wave, plus a range of automatics for "city slickers"

Kawasaki has made very small in-roads by doing something different - KSR125, D-Tracker 125/150/250, and Yamaha has bikes like the Spark and X-1R, sells mostly automatics.

Honda have whatever market there is with the Cbr150, presumably because it is made here by APHonda so doesn't get hit by import duty.

Yamaha have the FZR R15 in other Asian countries and talk of bringing it here, but presumably it would have to be imported.

What happens re' import duty on bikes after 2015 I don't know.

My point exactly, limited choice in small capacity un faired road bikes. Pity really when the big three Japanese manufacturers have such nice designs in other Asian countries.
