Whats the average rental cost? How many of you rent them? Whats good or bad about renting one?

There are many good bike hire outlets on soi Baukhao and not heard of any bad stories related to them, the main point to remember is do you NEED a bike as it can be dangerous, if you don't need one don't ride one, so many baht buses and bike Taxi's.

We dont have hire bikes any more by the way.

Rented a bike (Honda Click) for a month from Kessaya.  Had no problems at all, the owner is a real easy guy to deal with. The bike dropped and picked it up at the condo so I didn’t have to worry about it. Returned the deposit.

If I need a bike again, I definitely will use Kessaya again.

Some questions about having a rented scooter:

 

What's the etiquette and laws with regard to parking? Is it pretty much a free-for-all, like everything else on the street, or do I need to pay attention to some sort of signage?

 

Lockup - do you just put the chain through the wheel spokes and lock it, or must you chain the bike to something immovable? How do you secure a helmet (or perhaps two helmets?)

 

Do I need an international license, or is a US license OK?

 

How far out of Pattaya is it possible to venture? Can you ride as far as Nong Nooch without killing yourself, bruising your ass, or wearing out the bike?

 

Although I've driven fairly extensively on the wrong side of the road in the UK and New Zealand (and, unfortunately a few times back home in the US), I realize that I'm probably doubling the danger factor as a Yank attempting to outrun Pattaya traffic on a scooter.
