Kitesurf, Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on visiting Pattaya sometime in March next year and was hoping to do some kite surfing whilst I'm there.

I've had a quick search on the forums but not managed to find anything relating the subject, is there any one that has done any kite surfing in Pattaya who could give me some advice on locations and places to rent equipment, specifically using this place as base to rent gear?

I was also wondering as I'm hoping to stay nearer to central Pattaya, how much would a taxi, tuk tuk generally cost to Jomtein beach?

Hiya, I will be out in Patts in Feb/Mar and I learnt to Kitesurf at the place mentioned above. It's about 10km south of Pattaya. I've not progressed a great deal since so hoping to get a load of sessions in this time.

Taking as much kit as my baggage allowance will allow, but leaving board at home because of this. Not sure if they have any restrictions on Jomtien beach, but will check it out.

Let me know when you are out.

when I lived on the beach in pratumnak I'd see kitesurfers many times. I don't know what the wind is like in March so you might want to validate thats a good time. I assume it is btw. Pratumnak is the hill (and super small beaches) between Pattaya and Jomtien. On a map you will see the arc of the beach for pattaya and then some land jetting out and then the super long arc of the beach of jomtien.

I also heard that SOUTH jomtien (like south of the baht bus run) are more kitesurfers. the Baht buses thru most of the day and early night will run down to Chayapruk (between soi 14 and 15 way south on jomtien beach). the blue lagoon place specified in a link above is very close to soi 14 and beach road.

You could stay down that way. Budget beach hotel very near soi 14 is probably still 800b a night. You;ll be on the baht bus line (10b to walking street) but after about 10pm on weekdays the number of busses going down to the end, especially with no other passengers starts to dwindle.

You could stay in northern jomtien or even in pattaya. Some people like to sleep where the action is. that way you can pay a higher bar fine and take her to your room instead of upstairs etc. I prefer jomtien and I just hop a scooter up to pattaya. or a baht bus if I plan to drink.

A taxi baht bus from central pattaya to soi 14 would be probably a well negotiated 200b each way. By baht bus, 20 baht (10 to Walking Street, switch to a new truck on 2nd road and 10 baht to jomtien beach (usually to soi 14 or so).

What was your experience with this school? They provide good training for beginners, equipment is OK? Did you hear anything about the other kite surfing schools in PTT?

I found the school really good. I did a 12 hour course spread over about 3 days and got up to a level 2 qualification. I was lucky and had one to one tuition although  should have been in a group of 2.

You have to be flexible with the winds being a bit inconsistant. If you are in the area for a while you will get to learn on the better 'wind' days. Day 1 you start by flying a power kite and then progress from there, including all the safety instruction. I paid around 9000thb if I remember correctly.
