A 33-year-old meth dealer running from Phrae police swallowed dozens of meth pills in his panic. But he collapsed after running 200 meters and died in the middle of a field. His mouth was still full of orange meth tablets.

PHRAE – December 17, 2012 [PDN]; a report of a meth dealer who died after swallowing his pills was received by Pol. Lt. Capt. Amorn Khwangpan, officer of the shift of Phrae provincial police. He went to check the scene with Pol. Col. Banyat Netsuwarn, director of Muang Phrae police station; and a doctor from the Phrae hospital.

The incident occurred on the grassland behind Sopanalai temple in Bannalaem, Tungkwaw, Phrae. The victim was identified as Mr. Uten Kulthanapisai, 33 years old, living at a house in Bantungcharern, Huafai, Soongmen, Phrae.

Mr. Uten was wearing blue jeans and a blue long-sleeved shirt. His mouth was still full of orange meth tablets. Nearby on the ground was a bag of meth and a lot of tablets scattered all over the area. Mr. Uten had been trying to escape after being caught in a police undercover drug buy.

Earlier in the daytime, the suppression police had arrested a “Ms. B” (alias), and seized 200 meth tablets from her. Ms. B. confessed that she had bought drugs from Mr. Uten.

So the police used Ms. B to set up a police “sting” operation. They had her order another 200 tablets of meth from Mr. Uten. An appointment was made to have Mr. Uten deliver the drugs at the green dorm behind the Sopanalai temple.

However, when Mr. Uten arrived to deliver the drugs, the police showed themselves to arrest him. But Mr. Uten ran for his life. He unpacked the meth he was carrying, and started chewing and swallowing the tablets while running. But after 200 meters, Mr. Uten collapsed and fell onto the grassland. The police ran up to arrest him.

While the police were trying to handcuff Mr. Uten and taking the meth pills out of his mouth, he stopped moving, and then later died. The police sent Mr. Uten’s body to Phrae hospital to determine the official cause of death.
