Police arrested a couple who owned a 20-Baht shop in Rayong that was a front for drug dealing. Police made an undercover “sting” drug buy and seized 600 meth tablets. The couple’s property and bank accounts totaled millions of baht. Their drug network was run by a Rayong prison inmate.

SATTAHIP – December 2012 [PDN]: an arrest was announced of a drug-dealing couple at the Sattahip police station by Pol. Col. Chanapat Nawalak, director; Pol. Lt. Col. Prakorb Sang Pring, vice director; Pol. Lt. Col. Nipon Pomsanam, vice director of detectives; Pol. Lt. Col. Thapanat Chayanapat, detective inspector; and the detective team.

The suspects were identified as Mr. Somkiat Yodla, or Chang, 36 years old; and Mrs. Pensee Pairoh, or Mam, 38 years old. The couple operated an everything for 20-baht shop on soi Prachachuen, Nernpayom Rd. Mabtapud, Muang Rayong.

The suspects were charged with possession of a Type-1 drug (amphetamine) for selling and distribution; and for carrying a gun and bullets without a legal permit. Police seized evidence that included 596 tablets of meth, the 1,000 baht banknotes used in the undercover drug buy, a .38 Smith and Wesson pistol, and 5 bullets.

Police also seized the couple’s property worth over a million baht, derived from years of drug dealing. The confiscated property was sent to the Office Narcotics Control Board.

The seized property included a pickup truck, 3 motorcycles, 4 cell phones, and gold necklaces and rings that weighed around 5 baht 50 satang. Police also seized 23, 470 baht cash; as well as 4 bank account books showing that money was circulating in millions of baht.

Pol. Col. Chanapat Nawalak said the arrests resulted from a prior investigation that revealed the couple was smuggling and selling drugs in the area. They were using their 20-baht shop to cover their illegal activity. So the police planned a scheme to arrest them in the shop with an undercover drug purchase.

After their arrest, the couple confessed to drug dealing for many years, and it had made them wealthy. They said their drug network’s mastermind is an inmate in Rayong prison.
