Is this one going to be Tarmac or is it another grass strip........

I have mixed feelings about this. When I lived in the UK, I used to walk for hours every day in the disused farmland that they are tarmacking to build the extension and the re- routed A45.

So quiet and tranquil, bar the odd 747 coming into land. I remember my last walk there before I came to live in the LOS and I knew it woul be gone when I saw it next.

 

But, obviously, it will be great for mongorers who had to treck down to Heathrow for a direct flight.

Imo, The sooner direct flights from Birmingham Int to Bkk become a reality,The better.

They don't have direct flights to Bangkok from Manchester so I fail to see why they would fly direct from Birmingham.

Not much logic in that statement. Manchester were not competing with Birmingham with direct flights, until of course Birmingham announced they were going to do long haul direct. When we lived in Manchester I always thought it was a pity that no flights went direct to Bangkok. In Australia we have a least 4 cities with direct flights to Bangkok.

As I live within a mile or two of B'ham airport a direct flight to BKK would be SO convenient - perhaps a little too conveninent? LOL

trying for at least 3 years to get an airline to start a new Far East service to Hong Kong without success. Stats from the CAA show

I can remember flying direct from Manchester to BKK (DM Airport) with 'Airtours'(a Charter flight company) back in 1996. We only stopped en-route in Bahrain each way to refuel which gave us time to stretch our legs and then we continued our flight again.

from Manchester and Gatwick to Phuket using the new B787.

I hope Thompsons do the same. route. If their flight is direct to Phuket then Pattaya bound mongers would have to factor in the costs of Bankok Airways return flights to/from BKK or U- Tapau via Koh Samui which may prove too expensive.

Forget the direct route, not going to happen regardless. Competition is needed badly at BHX though and a new run way should help that. The preminum to fly from there to BKK is getting a joke.

Thomson like all package holiday companies do on occasions offload undersold flights / package holidays to companies such as charterflights.co.uk. Sometimes the flights are little cheaper than what you can get the whole package holiday for, other times, you can get real bargains!

You can fly direct MAN - Singapore, although via Munich, with no change of plane. Just land and wait for the extra PAX to get on/off.

 

If SIA struggles to fill an plan to Munich on a daily basis, little hope for MAN.

I don't know what Singapore Airlines has to do with this particular thread however don't worry

about the Singapore Airlines service ex Manchester. With the amount of premium passengers

and freight being carried to/from Manchester/Singapore expect a return to a direct service in 2013.
