Burglars broke into an East Pattaya home and stole a small safe containing 700,000 THB worth of cash and valuables. The occupant, a 63-year-old British man, had been gone overnight while celebrating the Loy Krathong festival with friends. The safe had been in his bedroom closet.

PATTAYA – November 29, 2012 [PDN]; at 11:30 a.m., a report of property being stolen in a house burglary was received Pol. Lt. Col. Phongrapee Loysaior, Inspector, Banglamung police station. He went to check the scene with a detective police team.

The burglary occurred in a single-story home at Raviporn place village, moo 5, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung. Waiting for the police at his home was the victim, Mr. Edmund Catterall, age 63, nationality British.

Mr. Edmund showed police the damage to his front door, where the burglar used nippers to cut the lock and enter his house. His bedroom door had also been locked, but the burglar also levered the doorknob open and entered his bedroom to steal his property. His stolen property was in a small room safe, about 12 by12 inches, in his bedroom closet.

The safe had contained 13,000 British pounds, $500 U.S. dollars, and 10,000 THB. It also had a gold wrist watch and two mobile phones. The total value of the stolen property was about 700,000 THB.

Mr. Edmund said he had left his house at 10 p.m. on November 28 to celebrate Loy Krathong festival in Pattaya. He returned home the next morning at 11 a.m. But he discovered his house had been broken into and his bedroom safe was gone, so he called the police.

Initially, the police assumed there likely was more than one burglar. The thieves also seemed familiar with the movement of the victim, so they knew the house would be empty. A detective police team was assigned to follow up and track down the burglars to prosecute according to the law.

runs out instead of trying to get some insurance pay out to stay another year .

And they left the laptops. Stinks.

most holiday insurance companies have a limit on how much cash is covered usually around 80,000 baht at the most , if he lives out there then it may be different
