Police arrested three Iranian men in a luxury home in East Pattaya involved in a big crystal meth manufacturing operation. The men may face the death penalty, but the operation’s mastermind is reportedly still at large.

PATTAYA – November 29, 2012 [PDN]; On November 25, the drug police had arrested an Iranian drug dealer, although four other suspects escaped. Police seized 2.5 kg of crystal meth, or “ice” in containers.

Police expanded their investigation in the case and discovered the drug dealer gang was still selling drugs. They were producing the drugs in a rented home in East Pattaya. An Iranian chemist from Malaysia had been brought in to produce the crystal meth in Thailand.

Later, Pol. Lt. Col. Chaiwat Chotima, the commissioner of the drug police, joined his forces with the Bangalmung Immigration Police. Their investigation revealed that the drugs were being made and stored in a home at 171/129 Green Park village, soi Chaiyapruek 2, Nongprue, Banglamoong, Chonburi.

Police raided the home and arrested three Iranian nationals: Mr. Asadoollahi Behnam Ali, age 36; Mr. Meti Munaei, age 28; and Mr. Behtp Chahoqos, age 25.

Police found the 20 kg of crystal meth hidden in the house, and also 60 liters of the ingredients to produce the meth. Police seized a total of 3 gallons of ingredients, a microwave oven, glass bowls and snack boxes. Police also seized two Toyota sedans.

The police also raided a second house at 99/560, Choke chai village soi 7, Khao noi, Nongprue, Banlamoong, Chonburi. Police also seized drug-producing equipment and ingredients.

The chemicals had been smuggled into Thailand from abroad, hidden in furniture items and ceramic pottery. The ingredients were used to make the crystal meth in secret drug-making facilities in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Pattaya.

The three locations were picked to manufacture the crystal meth because they are all tourist attractions, so a large amount of money was circulating. The police have been monitoring the big drug network for more than a year, leading to the initial arrests of the three Iranians.
