A drunk construction worker lit the fuse to a big firecracker he was holding in his left hand. But he held on to it to tease his friend and scare him. But before he could toss the firecracker, it detonated and almost blew off four fingers.

PATTAYA – November 27, 2012 [PDN]; at 9:30 p.m., a report was received of a man who got injured when fireworks exploded on his body. The incident occurred on Soi Mabyailia 28, in front of the village chief Kui market, Moo 7, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung,

The victim was identified as Mr. Leurn Wichaiwong, age 40, a construction worker. Rescuers arriving at the scene found him lying on the ground. He was still very drunk, and crying to ask for assistance.

Mr. Leurn’s right hand was grasping his heavily-bleeding left hand, which had four fingers nearly torn off by the exploding fireworks. The rescue officer performed first aid and then hurried to send him to be cured at Banglamung hospital.

Mr. Leurn told rescuers that he had walked out from the construction camp holding a “ball” firecracker, slightly larger than a big grape. The fuse on top of the firecracker was about 3 cm long.

Mr. Leurn walked until arriving at the village chief Kui market, and he noticed that no one else was around. So he lit the fuse of the ball firecracker to tease his friend walking behind him. But Mr. Leurn didn’t throw away the firecracker in time, so it exploded in his hand.
