I'm planning on bringing a Thai lady for a 2 Week holiday to Spain over xmas but would like to book a with a stop over in London first before getting another flight to Madrid. Could anyone tell me if she would need any paper work or documentation? She has a Thai passport and i.d. card. Any help would be great. Cheers

Stpo over for how long and would you be attempting to leave the airport?

Stop over for a few hours and no she won't be leaving the airport just getting a connecting flight.

As long as you do not leave the airport then a visa is not required, if you was planning on staying over 1-2 nights then she would need a transit visa, so just stay in the airport and await the connecting flight.

Schengen visas are not valid in the UK, as they never signed up to the agreement

As I said before you would only need a visa if you was leaving the airport and staying maybe one night then you would obtain a transit visa,

its the same if your partner is going to the UK and gets a connecting flight, lets say Amsterdam etc, as long as you do not leave the airport you are ok.

Ok thanks guys. And no, I don't consider her to be my pet. " Bring her over" is a term we use in England or at least London, where I'm from. Maybe you guys use different terms in Poland, I don't know and don't really care to much. Just relax and try working on your basic use of the English language.

I have researched this a bit because we are transiting the UK on our way to Spain next year.

 

My understanding is that Thaibutch is correct. No visa is required so long as you do not clear immigration. But if you change terminals, you need to do that. So if you arrive at and depart from the same terminal, no visa required. But if you change terminals, you/she will need a transit visa. There are two types depending on whether you are staying less than 24 hours or less than 48 hours.

This is wrong information.

 

Thai nationals can transit the UK without a visa as long as they have an confirmed onward ticket within 24 hours ( on the first available flight), and a valid visa for their destination if required. They are able to stay in the UK for 24 hours in transit, and may leave the airport. There is no requirement to remain in the airport or terminal.

 

This facility cannot be used to have a 24 hour visit in the UK ( saving a visa fee) as the passenger will need to show the immigration officer on arrival that he/she is taking the first onward flight. For instance, in this case, it would probably be unacceptable to tell the immigration officer that the next available flight is the next day, as he would not necessarily accept that as the truth ( as there are hundreds of lights to Spain each day).

Tee2008 is indeed correct, officially. But she would still need to convince the Immigration officer on duty that she will be legal in Spain, and more importantly that she will defiantly leave the UK. This will be the same on the return leg. If she has the Schengen visa and her return ticket to Thailand, chances are she'll be fine. Just don't bring her CV or anything that would imply she doesn't want to return to Thailand. Check this link to UKBA and she that she is entitled to TWOV.
