Looking for a bit of advice please BMs,

 

Im coming back to Thailand in January for a 2 month stay. Cant Wait !!!

 

Ive been to Bangkok and Patts and will be visitng and staying again during thisforthcoming trip.

 

But I am looking for other places to visit? Suggestions please??

 

Places I am considering are Koh Samui/ Koh Samet/ Koh Chiang, chang mai and Hua Hin.

 

 

I will be doing most my mongering in Patts/Bangkok as will be around these areas for about a 3weeks - 1 month of my stay.

 

But I am looking to travel around a bit with a girl I met on last visit, so in the above areas not too bothered about the mongering but open to hear reviews if you have got any?

 

Looking to relax and take things a bit slower as with a girl, but dont want it to be too quiet, would like a few western style bars to grab a drink or too. During the day like to do a bit of sightseeing but nothing more than that.

 

Im a youngish lad.. 30 and not a huge drinker or a person who goes to raves/discos (been there done THAT!), so not really interested in these activities, like a nice drink in a good bar with some good food from nice resteraunts.

samui great for chilling out with a girl, especially less crowded beaches outside chaweng eg lamai.

 

phuket lovely too,again outside patong eg kata/karon.

 

consider taking a sleeper train to butterworth (malay border) to visit penang my fave isle so far in asia. can even stay onboard train for kuala lumpur and singapore .cheap as chips and great scenery/places to visit on a longer hol.

 

enjoy...its will be a lot sunnier that a wet windy day like today in the toon.

I would go to Krabi...... you can visit all the places around Phuket (Beaches, etc) but without all the party atmosphere. The seafood there is excellent! It has been the best I have had in Thailand.

Another vote for Ao Nang (Krabi). But also have a look at Chiang Mai in the North as it is well worth a visit.

Penang sounds nice, and yes your right I think the sun will be a little warmer than it is in the toon !! hahaha far to much wind and rain, get me outta here

Ive heard good things about Chiang Mai, can you fly there? As looking on a thai map looks very northern.

Fly to Chiang Mai from Bangkok is very reasonable with AirAsia

 

It is about 3000 baht return.

Flights sounds very reasonable. Ive heard good things about Chiang Mai so I think I may go .

 

ill check out his hotel as when staying somewhere new I always feel its good to stay fairly close to the action.

i really like hua hin, it's got a nice feel to it as a city, similar to chiang mai but without the drugs...the beach is good, the weather's nice and its good to chill out...nothing like pattaya but that's why i like it

one of my favourite times was a week around katchananburi - the walk through hellfire pass and the cemetery at the kwai bridge was a great experience - opens your eyes to a bit of WW2 history. as a brit it may be of value to you. I hired a car for the week so that it was easy to get around, about a 4 hour drive from BKK.

Hua hin I think is a place I will visit, sounds like a nice place, for a bit of a chill out after a few wild weeks in Bangkok and Patts. And its not too far from patts a couple of hours travel.

the driving was a bit of a worry around BKK but everywhere else it's pretty easy and they drive on the correct side. If you are not confident about it then best to get bus or train. most of the hotels there can organise a car + driver for you and it's not expensive.

There are also other Castles or Kings palaces where there is interesting history. The Golden Triangle is also quite educational if you have a chance to do some reading before you go. I would suggest picking up a "Fodor's" Bok on Thailand. It is loaded with information. Enjoy your trip and relax. I've taken the trip 12 times and am getting ready to return in Feb if everything works out.
