Mutton Dressed as, er, Slob

Featured Replies

I’ve lived in Pattaya several years and also make many excursions to Bangkok. It stands out that in Bangkok the nightlife expats are usually better dressed than those in Pattaya. Many expats hanging around in Pattaya at night look very shabby and unkempt. I don’t say wear expensive clothes, but why not at least wear a clean shirt and trousers or shorts, and clean footwear, instead of grubby shirts, vests, tatty jeans/shorts, flip-flops? It is so inexpensive here to buy decent-looking clothes. I’ve found that looking clean and smart is a help with the ladies; although being on the down slope of mature I find that the ladies prefer sitting with me far more than having to sit or go with some scruff bag. I am sure that a lady also provides far better company and performance when with a clean and fresh-looking man.

Sometimes it's not what you wear, but how you wear it!!

Pattaya expats will sometimes argue that as Pattaya is a seaside holiday resort, they can be more relaxed with clothing than those in Bangkok. Fair comment, at least for daytime wear, but it does not excuse the dirty-looking state of the clobber worn by some expats; or, for that matter, the dirty-looking state of some of the expats. You are quite right about decent inexpensive clothing being available, despite which some mongers seem to wear the same clothes from breakfast to evening time which, in our climate, means you should never stand downwind of them. Thankfully these people are a minority and there is plenty of room for you to avoid them and put your well-dressed self about midst similar expats; and you can carry on being ensnared by the tastiest crumpet.
