In Pattaya Now – We Refute Bar Cartel Allegations

Featured Replies

Dear Editor,

I have been enjoying the delights of Pattaya for many years, and of In Pattaya Now more recently.

Today  I was looking through my photograph collection of old and new bars and realized the In Pattaya Now team are running a bar cartel which is why you are always writing about Pattaya and its nightlife.

I found these pictures of bar signs, at least one of which is not with us any more, but maybe there are others you are not telling us about?

Howard's End

I think your readers should be told the truth.

Yours in mirth,

Oh dear, we’ve been sprung! Hoisted on our own petards (that’s French for luminous bar signs) as it were. All these people are proxies (that’s Irish for little fairies who live in swampy gardens) and they run our beer bar cartel.

Sadly, with the economic hardships of bar ownership, we have had to diversify.

Lloydies has now moved to the City of London where it has become an insurance company specializing in low-cost premiums for low-level flooding in countries like Burma, Thailand and the Philippines.

Howards is at the End of a cul-de-sac soi, but he does enjoy a cult following among retired bar hostesses from Bognor, Bangor, and the less salubrious parts of Baghdad.

Duncans is the best of the lot, naturally. With such a fine name and elegant bearing it is a little oasis of charm.

Our collective plans to corner the market in beer bars in Pattaya has, however, been thwarted by the proliferation of these places. They just keep building more and more and we simply don’t have enough money coming in from our gold and diamond mines in Tanzania, Australia, and the civilized parts of the eastern United States (read: the UK) to keep up.
