Just a bit of advice, I get tired of seeing guys and gals who have come through the Immigration through the airport at BKK and been stamped wrong, most people are that tired and finally glad to get through the happy smiling Immigration desk they just put there passport in there pocket without looking and off for some fun.

 

But it is not fun when you should have been stamped 60 days for a tourist visa obtained in your own country and you have been stamped 30 days so always check your stamp and if the officer has made a mistake politely tell him or her.

 

If you are coming to Thailand and only need the standard visa on arrival 30 days then no problems but check anyway.

 

If you are coming on a 60 day tourist or a Non Immigrant visa or a re entry permit the trick is to put the little TM6 white card you fill in on the plane in your passport next to your visa so the officer can see it and does not have to route through your passport.

 

If you get back to Pattaya or your destination and notice the stamp is wrong and you go to the Immigration they may tell you to go back to the airport to change it, so pre empt the situation and check first.

 

If you should have been stamped 60 days for example and you get stamped 30 days and only notice after 40 days the rule is you have overstayed 10 days, because your stamp is your responsability and the Immigration are never wrong, if you notice before the end of the 30 days and get it changed you are ok and no overstay so be careful.

I usually tell them i have visa.They sometimes give me dirty look,but at least they know.

I did a visa run before with company in Soi post office and the guy who was supposed to fill in the TM6 card forgot to put my visa number on it.I never checked and when i went to the desk the immigration bitch said she would only give me 30 days because of this,even though i had visa.When i explained to her what had happened she wasnt the slightest bit interested.Wouldnt just write 4 numbers on the card for me.Usual story,Thai lady with big gold,up her own ass,slag!

This is why its always best to check, we all make mistakes but in Thailand mistakes cost money!!

It's happened to me twice, but I checked and got it corrected.

I've tried putting the TM6 next to my Visa stamp, but the first thing they usually do is remove it and put it to one side and then start rooting anyway.

Checking the date stamp either in your Passport or on your TM6 before you leave Passport Control is the best advice.

 

A small point perhaps, but mixing up the terminology of 'Visa on Arrival' with 'Visa Exemption/Waiver' (No Visa just 30 day Waiver Stamp) has been known to cause confusion on the forum.

 

Ditto 'Retirement Visa' versus 'Extension of Stay (Retirement)' whenever that crops up.

Good advice, although doesn't effect me as I just need the 30 days, but can see how it can easily happen and potentially a hassle to resolve.

Thanks with regards to visa waiver and extension of stay, but I have always wrote in layman's terms because not everybody on this forum or coming to Thailand is experienced so I try to write as easy to understand as I can,

 

I have learn't especially at the Pattaya expats club that not everybody has been here for years, this is why forums like this one as so important to Newbie's and you would be amazed on a daily basis how many long time residents who still make mistakes.

Writing ambiguously and incorrectly about something which needs to be clear, such as types of Visa is exactly what does cause confusion for newbies IME.

 

I don't doubt that expats also make mistakes, but I don't think you're helping with your so called newbie speak....

...though maybe that's a good plan for you.

Happened to me once.

 

I had a 60 Visa, but didn;t point it out at entry, also didn't check the passport. When it was time to leave they tried to tell me i had overstayed 30 days. I ended up getting a supervisor involved. they then use the 60 day stamp to cover my overstay. Could have been expensive.

 

Now I always show the Visa to the officer when I step up to the podium. Lesson learned.

The 'Admitted Until' date stamped should be the same as the one on your Visa,, but if they somehow miss your Visa you'll most likely to get a 30 day stamp IME.

They don't do the 90 day address reporting calculation for you.

 

The Visa stamp you should point out to them is your Multi' Re-entry stamp and that's the Visa # they want on your Arrival/Dep' card, not the # on your 'Extension of Stay (Retirement)' or 'Retirement' Visa (whichever you have).

when does your 'retirement' extension of stay finish? , have you got a non o visa that is still in date, or did you get a one year extension based on retirement and then get a multi re-entry permit to go with that extension?

I think I was too, but after having it 'corrected' 3 times to the Re-entry Permit # (which is much simpler 4-5 digit) I decided to go with the flow and the last 5-6 times haven't had a problem.

we just charge 500 baht, give it to the laughing boys they change it and everybody is happy if you ever need which i hope nobody does.

Yes i know exactly how that is with them,Always and I mean always check your chop,because Thailand immigration at all the boarder points seem to be the same ,ive had a none descript chop where the ink ran out on the pad and you could not read any date at all,another time at Padang basar they put the wrong year i got August 2013 which gave me one whole year there not bad yea for just a visa on arrival chop which should be 1 month,wish i could have used it to the full and see what would have happened when 1 year later i go to chop out, I probably would have ended up in jail because as you say there never to blame for mistakes,its like any accident you may have there it will always be your fault and you will have to pay but hey its Thailand
