been trying to copy a gif file to outlook email but all i get is a still image ?

I don't think you can get the actual animation in the email, you have to save it to your harddrive and include it as an attachment. The receiver can then open it with e.g IE (internet exploder)

I don't believe that outlook supports animated images.  Only option is to paste the link. A lot of people send animated images as part of threads as jokes, they always use links.

Outlook is not Internet Exporer (or chrome, etc). It cannot render the animation part of a gif. You can write an HTML email and embed the GIF from the original source on the internet or from your own hosting site, then it will be animated in the email. Note however, most email clients will initially block the web based content and ask their user if they trust your content.
