About two weeks ago, a British tourist was robbed of nearly 60,000 THB while he lay unconscious in his Pattaya hotel room, after he drank coffee laced with sleeping pills. The suspect, a 48-year-old Uttaradit woman, was later arrested trying to escape to Cambodia to gamble with the money.

PATTAYA – November 22, 2012[PDN]; at 1 a.m., the arrest of a woman for drugging and robbing a tourist was announced by Pol. Col. Prapoj Chotkhun, Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Aroon Promphan, Inspector; and the police team.

The suspect was identified as Ms. Jidapha Mul-ood, age 48, from Tambon Chaijumphol, Amphur Lablae, Uttaradit province.

She is charged with drugging a British tourist, Mr. Alan Edwin Basham, in the room of Apex hotel on second Pattaya road. She had stolen nearly 60,000 THB from her victim. She later tried to escape to Cambodia, but was arrested by police officers.

The drugging and robbery occurred on November 6. Mr. Alan had met Ms. Jidapha Mul-ood at Pattaya Beach, near Soi 12. They talked to each other, and she persuaded him to take her to his hotel room. So they bought 2 cups of coffee and 2 bottles of Bacardi along the way.

When they arrived at his room, Ms. Jidapha allowed Mr. Alan to take a shower in the bathroom. Then she put the sleeping pill in Mr. Alan’s coffee. After Mr. Alan drank his coffee with the sleeping pill, he became unconscious. Later he was found by hotel staff, who notified the police.

The detective team of the Pattaya tourism police investigated the case and discovered that Ms. Jidapha was going to escape to Cambodia. The detetectives coordinated with the Immigration Police in Janthaburi province to detain and arrest the suspect.

After her arrest, Ms. Jidapha confessed to her crime, which she said she committed in order to get money to pay a gambling debt. Also, she wanted to go to Cambodia to gamble at the gambling den there. The suspect was sent to the investigation officer of Pattaya police station to prosecute according to the law.

Pol. Col. Prapoj Chotkhun commented that this is the kind of incident that ruins the good reputation of Pattaya and Thailand, and negatively impacts tourism and the investments by foreigners.

The Pattaya police are continually arresting thieving women and ladyboys who keep drugging and robbing tourists, he said. The police commander believes the suspect may have victimized other tourists, and if they are still in Thailand, they can come and notify the tourism police.

Police officers are also cracking down and arresting shop owners that smuggle or illegally dispense the sleeping pills to the dishonest sex workers, he said.

The Pattaya police will continue their police sweeps of ladyboys and women selling sexual services on Pattaya beach and in the bars, he said. The police will do criminal background checks and record information about them for their records.

Well it would be nice if the police did not arrest my girlfriend (who sits with me all evening, and is not dressed up like a working girl) along with every other ladyboy.
