A Cambodian gay man and a Beung Karn woman stole the property of a Russian tourist on Pattaya beach while he was swimming. But the thieves crashed their motorbike trying to escape. They were injured and later arrested. The Russian’s stolen property included a bottle of liquor, some bread and his shorts containing 10 THB.

PATTAYA – November 20, 2012[PDN]; at 6 a.m., a report of bystanders capturing trouble makers who stole a tourist’s property while he was swimming in the sea was received by Pol. Lt. Vitsanu Chaisuwan, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station.

The incident occurred at Pattaya beach by Soi 2 near the A-One hotel, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Arriving at the scene, police found the bystanders had captured two trouble makers named Mr. Vit Jachepba, age 20, a gay nationality Cambodian; and Ms. Piyawan Jantharak, age 29, from Tambon Nong Phantha, Amphur Sophisai, Beung Karn province.

Both of them had scratch wounds all over their body, because their motorbike had fallen while they tried to ride escape after stealing a Russian’s possessions left on the beach. The stolen items included The Russian’s shorts and a plastic bag containing a bottle of liquor and some bread.

The victim was identified as Mr. Aleksander Krist, age 47, nationality Russian. He pointed out the thieves to confirm to arrest. Mr. Aleksander told police that he had taken off his clothes on the beach, and left his shorts and the liquor and bread on the sand to go swimming.

But a thief ran to steal his possessions on the sand, and ran to a waiting motorbike driver on the roadside. They tried to ride away to escape, but their motorbike fell down and injured the two thieves. So the Russian shouted to the bystanders that saw the incident to assist to capture them.

Mr. Aleksander later told police that he had left his valuables at his hotel before coming out to swim, so he had only 10 THB in his shorts pocket. After their arrests, the two suspects confessed to their crime. Mr. Vit said he has been the closest friend of Ms. Piyawan for a long time, because both of them sold sexual services on Pattaya Beach.

But today Ms. Piyawan told him she had no money to pay for the daily room rent, because she had used up all of her money to buy amphetamines to consume. Mr. Vit also didn’t have money, because he used up all of his money to buy amphetamines to consume, too.

Therefore, they persuaded each other to snatch and run away with the property of a foreign victim at the beach. They had previously made similar trouble several times by stealing tourists’ property left on the beach.

So Ms. Piyawan was the motorbike driver and Mr. Vit the passenger. They drove around until they saw the Russian was swimming in the sea, and he had left his clothes on the beach. Mr. Vit thought there might be valuable assets in the pocket of the shorts of the Russian.

So he hurried to tell Ms. Piyawan to park and wait for him on the road. Then Mr. Vit ran to steal the shorts of the victim, hoping to get cash or valuable property surely. The thieves thought they now had enough money to pay their daily room rent and buy amphetamines to consume.

But while riding the motorbike to escape, because Ms. Piyawan has a small body, she was not good at controlling a motorbike. So she lost control and the motorbike fell down, and both of them were captured.

The rescue officer of Sawangboribul foundation performed first aid for both injured thieves. They were then taken to the investigation officer at the Pattaya police station to prosecute further according to the law.
